Does the $10 off 2x $50 completely nuke the fees?
Yes, it entirely nukes the fees and even gives you a 10 cent MM, including the extra benefits you get on the particular credit card you used to buy them. Personally, I use my Am Ex Blue Cash Preferred Card that gives 6% back on purchases at grocery stores.

$50 on Amex and $50 on MC/Visa?Based on my experience, yes for real credit cards, YMMV for prepaid cards.

I think the register accepts multiple payments, its the cashier that’s YMMV.
I usually buy the first one with several small prepaids from rebates.
Then roll the 2 @ $100. That leaves ~ $3 on one card.
Next transaction use the $3, $100 & $100. The last $100 card will end up with $6 on it.
Alternatively toss in groceries to use up the $3 MM.**NB: It may take some time for the cards to activate after purchase. Cashier warned me cuz he knew I’d be rolling the cards. It took about 10 minutes before I was able to use cards just purchased.

I actually used a MasterCard prepaid card to pay for merchandise at Costco! Somehow my MasterCard prepaid card could be used at Costco, which usually takes only Visa.
