100-Pack USPS Forever Stamps - 2018 U.S. Flag $44.99 + FS @ Tanga

I bought some discount forever stamps recently online and forgot there is sales tax (10% in CA) that unfortunately shaves the savings margin down vs. buying from the post office or grocery store a lot. If Tanga doesn’t charge sales tax, then great deal.
-
@jbw That’s funny, I would’ve thought that you would pay the same tax online as at the post office.
-
I have never had to pay tax when I have bought postage stamps at the Post Office, Office Depot, or Staples.

Postage stamps are NOT subject to state sales tax. Tanga shouldn’t be charging tax.

From the description: “Postage stamps are subject to sales tax. It is only when purchased at a Post Office, or an authorized vendor of the US Government, such as a PO branch office or a satellite office located in a stationery store, etc. that taxes are not collected. All other stamp dealers or online vendors are required to charge sales tax”

With all of the online banking and social media these days, it would take me over 20 years to use up 100 stamps…

I went through checkout to the point of entering my card number (that’s where I stopped), and it showed no sales tax.

This is on a state by state basis, not a Federal thing. my state does NOT charge sales tax on stamps bought say at Office Depot, which is NOT an authorized post office or satellite operation. If you are being charged sales tax by Tanga on stamps and they aren’t taxable in your state, you should request a refund from them for the tax.

Not that it matters now, but I bought mine on eBay. They charged me CA state tax, although eBay tends to charge state tax for everything unless you appeal it for items such as food or property, but it’s a pain.

If you are an Office Depot rewards member, you can use your rewards to buy postage stamps (tax free, of course). I have accumulated over $1,500 in stamps by doing that.
