PSA STAPLES INK REWARDS PROGRAM CHANGE

I just came from a Staples store where I tried to use the balance of an Ink Reward from a prior purchase. I noticed that I did not get a balance certificate of $10 on the receipt when I used the $40 award to buy a $30 item two weeks ago and the cashier said, “Oh we do not print them out anymore, just use the original ink reward for next purchase”. But when I tried to use it today it was refused. According to store manager Staples no longer gives you the unused balance of an Ink Reward certificate for use on a second purchase prior to the original coupon expiration date. You have to use the entire award in a single purchase or lose the balance. It is not posted anywhere on Staples website or store and according to manager the policy is a few weeks old.

@waldo1945 I heard similar rumblings somewhere, but when I used my rewards last month to buy stuff I was able to get a bounceback reward.

If I recall, Staples sent out an e-mail a month or two ago that noted that balance certificates were no longer going to be issued. Not sure when I read that nor when it stated that it was going to begin.

It would be great if you could find that email and copy and paste its contents. I do not recall ever seeing that from Staples.

It may even be mentioned in deal discussion from a few months back (seem to recall this being announced late summer, Aug or September) I remember thinking it was one more reason to drop out of their staples plus program which I did in late November.

What is this “bounceback reward”?
The new behavior started rolling out in September. Old registers were still issuing balance coupons, but the new ones did/do not.

I thought that change about having to spend the rewards check in full took effect some time ago. Old news, isn’t it?

Actually, the store manager said it was not posted anywhere on Staples site but when I went and checked it out, it is in the terms and conditions. Merry Christmas and thanks to all who responded.

Wonder how true this is. I had a bounceback issued last month and I was able to actually find the balance in my rewards account (and get the barcode generated to use in store).

IF a balance coupon is generated by the register, then yes, it would also show up in the rewards account. Otherwise, no.

I’ve never seen them on the website before, so I thought maybe they’re just shifting them there
