All remaining stores closing.
On a personal note, I will miss Big Lots. It was one of the last places I could buy truly cheap food items. They were short-dated and close to expiration, but that didn’t matter to me. I think my best deal there was a couple years ago when I bought about 20 full-size packages of Oreo cookies for a quarter each.

Best deal: Ghirardelli white chocolate chips for very little out of pocket after stacking coupons.
I went there today because it’s the last day and I had a $10 coupon from an email. Bought a party-size peanut butter M&M’s (34 oz.) for the regular price of $12.98 (gadzooks!) minus the $10 coupon = $2.98
RIP

Very sad news, Big Lots has been around a long time too. Purchased many things there over the years from food to christmas items (was just there the other day picking up gift bags for the holidays), to a couple of furniture pieces to cat food/treats to hardware/small electronics items.
I think I have a GC with a few bucks left on it from a TCB purchase back in May or so. I went to buy a $15 one back in November, but it wasn’t even listed and now I’m glad I didn’t buy it.
I really didn’t see this coming, and nothing quite fills the void. In fact, I was in Five Below recently and they sell a lot of stuff for way more than $5 now. Even the $5 tshirts are now $5.55.

YMMV on using coupons that are sent to you by Big Lots. II had a $5. Off $15 purchase coupon that I wanted to use and they wouldn’t accept it during the closing sale. They said no coupons allowed.
-
I may swing by my local store to see what’s left. My find was when I found full sized Torani syrups for $2.99. I decided one was enough and went back and, of course, all were gone. Limited selection but for the price…
-
@cheapcharlie9 same here. I couldn’t use any coupons at all. The store told me they don’t care what the corporate email says, period! So I have a $15gc left that I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be wasted cuz there’s practically nothing left on shelves last time I went.

My store accepted coupons because it was still open, it wasn’t slated for closure nor was part of the previous closures. Once a store is taken over by the liquidators, coupons are a no go.

@ctujackbauer All the stores are closing, so I’m not sure how your store wasn’t slated for closure. At least in my area, the closure sales are handled by the regular employees, no liquidators involved.

I went there Friday at a store that was still open, it was Buena Park, the only remaining open store in Orange County. The closures were leaked to the press, but the stores weren’t officially in liquidation. They’re technically still not in liquidation yet, Big Lots said liquidation sales will start “soon” and “in the coming days” (their wording.)

Interesting. That’s the exact same store I was at on Friday also. I was there about 145 or 2 PM. What time were you there? The two cashiers working when I was there wouldn’t accept any coupons. It was a man and a woman.

I visited my closest store yesterday. They weren’t on the original closing list that I saw published but they now had the “Closing” banner across the front of the store. Inventory was pretty picked over but a line of about 8 to 10 folks waiting to check out. I found nothing of interest to me and I only saw a few categories with the percent discount signs posted. I checked the laundry detergent but the prices were easily beat by this weeks Walgreen’s ad.

I got to use my $10 coupon. Our store was not on the closing list from before. I asked first and the cashier didn’t know but said it should. Only Christmas was marked down. Got a few Christmas items and paid $1 after coupon.

Variety Wholesalers thought 200 to 400 store and a few distribution centers were worth something. They will be the new owners and keeping the Big Lots name for those stores. They’re even retaining a lot of those stores’ employees.
