    What belongs in Free Stuff?

    • Stuff that’s free, usually stuff you would otherwise pay for.
    • Stuff that’s always free but not everyone knows about it.
    • Samples, Stickers, swag, etc.
    • Stuff that hasn’t already been posted.

What doesn’t belong in Free Stuff?

    • Always-free stuff that everyone knows about.
    • Bad stuff that is spam, referrals, MLM, etc.
    • Stuff that requires ship cost.
    • If the value of the freebie is more than $10, it belongs in Hot Deals
*Free Items where another purchase of some kind is required. (ie: Bath Body Works, FREE ITEM w/any purchase)
    • Free items that are subject to sales tax (where coupon or offer specifically notes sales tax is the responsibility of the customer) Some states do require that sales tax be paid on the selling price prior to coupon promo discount (New Jersey does for example)
    • Free Items based on prior purchase to earn free item: ie, Rewards Programs - Free 12 Pack of Coca-Cola with 10 cap codes. While the item is free, you have to spend a good deal OOP to obtain the cap codes, thus it is not free w/o a purchase of some kind.

    Ethics

    • Free stuff is awesome, and seeking out free items is part of the fun. Receiving it is the other Part. Many free offers have B2B restrictions, Please give the offers some thought before applying for them. If you don’t qualify, don’t request. Leave the freebie for someone that is eligible.

  • Exactly how are you going to handle original posts for all offers or deals from one place?
    An example is redbox offers.
I am going to assume you want all the offers in one post rather than in individual posts.
I would guess this would also apply across the board.
An example is the post "current free magazine subscriptions"
I would guess it is also treated the same as “all redbox codes” and all magazine offers would go there.
    Another example is Zapals
They offer a new free item every few days.
I would also guess that you would want all of them posted in the single “Current Zapals offers” rather than individually every 2 days

@Tuskers As I’ve already communicated to you through chat, the moderators and admin are going to discuss this and formulate an official policy. No decisions or statements will be made before then. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

BTW although I posted, Consider the faqs like a wiki for all moderators. @MISTERCHEAP That was my intention when posted that they would slowly be added to.

I added info, no need to ask to add next time.

    OK @FrugalFreak understand, thanks.

  • 5K Club

@mistercheap Where do the coke codes etc go?

  • 1000 Club

@mrsguin I moved a coke rewards post to free stuff and pinned it as an official thread.

  • Global Moderator

@MrsGuin @FrugalFreak Offers for to give away FREE codes, go in the Master in Free Stuff, however, REDEMPTION Prizes Offers like Coke Beverages, 12 packs, Gift Cards etc that require 10 or 20 or 30 codes to claim go in HD.

  • Global Moderator

People will not see these offers gift cards, 12 packs, etc buried in a master thread.

Please put expiration dates in title of post.

  • Please make sure your links work. Users shouldn’t be scrambling to find a working link on a competing site. Everyone should test their links after posting. And use the add-a-link function when providing real long links, they almost invariably break up.

Some sources don’t allow direct linking, so state that one must c&p the link, to get it to work.

Actually, hot deals is where things get buried. Rewards programs have always been in free stuff & should stay there. Its a lot faster & easier to go through a master thread than going through even a week of HD. A free carton of coke ,for example, is not worth $10 & if other similar rewards that MISTERCHEAP doesn’t use can be here, they all should be here.

  • Global Moderator

@MrsGuin Sorry, simply not true, REDEMPTION awards have always been in HD. there simply is no reason an offer to get a $5 Amazon GC for ‘x’ # of codes, etc s/b in a master thread of any kind.

What you are missing in your “free” carton of Coke example is…IT IS NOT FREE! If you have to PURCHASE Coke products to obtain the 10 codes, redeeming for a free item required you to spend money to get that item. I do not understand why that concept is so hard to grasp. It is no different than an offer where you get a free body lotion at Bath Body Works with any purchase. Obviously the item isn’t free outright because it requires another purchase. No different than redeeming points for the 12 pack. The points REQUIRED a purchase. The fact that it is worth less than $10 is no longer the issue because YOU HAVE TO SPEND MONEY somewhere along the line to qualify for it.

FREE STUFF UNDER $10 GOES IN FREE STUFF BECAUSE IT REQUIRES NO OTHER PURCHASE OF ANY KIND. A free item, even if it is worth 12 cents, goes in HD IF you have to spend money to get it for ‘free’. It is a very simple litmus test.

  • 5K Club

@mistercheap What you are missing is that a large portion of people redeeming these offers have received the caps free without ever purchasing anything. there are also bonus codes that cost nothing. I never spent money anywhere along the line but received tons of FREE coke rewards.
Redemption rewards always in HD is not something that I cannot attest to, but I have always found them in free stuff.
So there is no good reason why they can’t be mirrored in both sections.

I used to pick them up wherever i saw them, had family save me the cartons, there is a purchase even if not by you.

@MrsGuin @CouponClippen @FrugalFreak just because you ‘find them’ doesn’t mean someone else didn’t pay for them. the program is designed that you EARN the points for BUYING Coke products. Free additional promo codes are not the norm, and finding codes or being gifted codes by someone not using their’s doesn’t mean the were free to obtain to start with as FF points out.

Bottom line is, I pay for my codes as do many others @CouponClippen too I suppose, and redemptions for free gift cards go in HD, not solely in a master Free thread. There’s nothing wrong mentioning them in there, but many miss out on knowing about it if you bury it in a master thread. Sorry.

I still say leave them in master thread unless it is a really valuable reward like $10 gift card. They are easy to spot there instead of searching Hot deals.

We own a business and yes we buy LOTS of Coke products.

@frugalfreak Sorry, I disagree, there were MULTIPLE excellent $5 GC Redemption opportunities in Dec 2017, Amazon, Target and WalMart, you mean ALL Of those should never have seen the light of day in HD?

Look at the history…views and comments on these threads. They were some of the most active threads in HD last month.

And they are not ‘easy to spot’, nothing is as easy to spot as a TITLE of a thread as you eye glance HD threads. Having to go into a thread to search for a ‘possible’ deal they may or may not be there is a waste of my time IMO.

  • 5K Club

Anything is easier than looking for something in HD.

My apologies for the delayed public reply to this question.

Members are welcome to group multiple related deals in a single thread (e.g., ebooks, magazines, stickers, etc.). It is, in fact, appreciated because doing so does help to keep a forum uncluttered, especially when individual items are not particularly strong enough to warrant their own threads (e.g., self published ebooks by unknown authors, newly published, with few reviews and/or poor reviews). You may choose to post a new grouped-deal thread daily, weekly, or monthly, etc., or to just post replies to a single grouped-deal thread indefinitely whenever a new related deal is available.

However, PWF will not require other members to post their related deal in a combined/grouped-deal thread. They may certainly do so if they choose, but they are also free to choose to post their deal in their own separate OP/new thread… or to create their own grouped-deal thread on the same topic (as long as it is not a repost: the moderators will help them to remove any duplicate links).

As previously posted, PWF will create a master thread in which all self-published free ebooks will be required to be posted if the Free Stuff forum ever becomes flooded with individual threads for poor quality vanity ebooks. Should that occur, we will still continue to allow mainstream ebooks to be posted in individual threads (mainstream meaning books written by well known/established authors and/or that have well known publishers).

On a related note, please be aware that at PWF, “Official” threads need to be approved by the site and, due to several issues, we’ve placed an indefinite hold on the creation of any new official threads. We are aware that that’s a bit different than how things were done at FW, however, we need to do what is best for this site. As mentioned previously, members are free to create threads that group like deals, and the OP and members are free to add new information/deals to such threads on an on going basis (but are not required to do so). So, such threads will essentially function the exact same way… just without the “Official” label. Feel free to use the words “Master Thread” in the title for such threads (although this is not required). Any unauthorized use of the word “Official” will be deleted from the thread title/OP by the @Global-Moderators. Existing “Official” threads are exempt/grandfathered in, and related deals are required to be posted in authorized “Official” threads (except in the rare cases where their value is so unusually high or the terms so unique it warrants its own thread).

Thank you so much for your patience in waiting for a reply… and thanks to everyone for your understanding and cooperation.

  • What exactly is considered a repost and why are some locked and some not?

IMHO all reposts should be locked. It makes no sense to me to have 2 exactly the same posts with exactly the same offers and links on the board at the same time but that is exactly what PywackettyCat allowed today. The posts are right next to each other.
So, lets take this opportunity to discuss awhat should be done when an offer is reposted.
A consistant policy would be appreciated and respected by all.
Lets please start with PywackettyCat explaining why it is ok to have 2 exactly identical posts on the board together.

  • why are some reposts moved to expired and others not?

    Example:
    https://phatwalletforums.com/topic/9889/free-siriusxm-radio-8-30-9-10

  • Seems good so far, i abbid to the rules and this post points out some important stuff regarding what can and can not be published here in the forum.

Hope to get some good deals 🙂
