Buy >$10 worth @ OfficeDepot.
Recycle 10 empty ink cartridges.
Get $20 rewards next month.
-
If you’re monetizing Rewards/gc better off not using the coupons, right?
eta: or get $17.50 worth of pens…
I’ll bet Staples Rewards would count as coupons
-
Thanks, MC. I think I will buy mine at Office Depot and pay with the Office Depot gift cards I bought last Christmas at 20% off to make it a 20% MM. And good idea, sonofzeus. I will use this as my qualifying spend this month and recycle 10 ink cartridges while I am it.
-
One thing I noticed when reading the terms and conditions is it looks like you can submit twice for this freebate. It says in the T&Cs: “Limit two (2) rebate requests per family or address.” I would mail each request in a separate envelope though.
-
Just back from Office Depot. They have 15 count packs of medium black Bic Gelocity pens for $5 after instant savings. I bought 2 packs as I plan to submit for the rebate twice under different names in the household.

if you haven’t hit the $10 yet for July, buy a pack for $10+ now, repeat in August. that way you’re covered for two months recycle.

I called the customer service number on the rebate form and they said sending in both rebate request forms in the same envelope would not be a problem.

Mister C or Mister V – Are you aware that OD gift card is treated the same as OD reward certificate, that is, doesn’t earn rewards or counted for $10 regular purchase for ink recycling purpose? I had always thought that OD giftcards are treated same as cash or cc payment methods (and always worked so for me before). But my most recent purchase ( july 13) at the store using OD gc didn’t earn reard or qualify me for the ink recycling. I thought maybe OD just changed their policy so i called the customer service to confirm, but the rep told me OD gc payment has always been disqualified for rewards or meeting ink recycling requirements (which i know was not true prior to July). I’m puzzled and don’t know what’s going on with OD.
-
I interpret the T&C as saying you purchase ONE product per rebate, e.g. not 3 @ $4.
So the $1.50/2 coupon wouldn’t help unless you don’t care about not getting rebate on 2nd item.
I would like a 12 pack of pens for ~ $9.99 available online but not in any B&M stores that I can find. Checked Target, Staples, WM, OD. Rebate form calls for cash register receipt which you can only get B&M.
Anyone found a store where you can get more than 2 black pens B&M?

@niniss sorry, your information is not correct. a ‘real’ Office Depot Gift Card (versus a merchandise credit or rewards) is treated as cash/cc equiv. where ink recycle is concerned. It does indeed count.

@mistercheap that is what i thought until july 13. So what’s the store credit look like? Exactly like the store gc? Cuz what i have and used is just the ordinary OD gc. I got them all from last year’s mail in rebate , except for one from online order return in store. But physically its identical to the regular OD store giftcard.
-
I will use these OD rewards as follows:
Phone order Glad ForceFlex Tall Garbage Bags PriceMatched to the cheapest competitor.
Ship free to nearby store for pickup.
-
This would make a nice gift for a child:

If for the ream paper ‘rebate’ of $40, those were a GIFT CARD and I have indeed used those towards ‘real’ spend’.
There have been some rebates where a ‘merchandise card’ was offered, so I’m not sure exactly what rebate you are referring to.
Did you look in your purchase history to see what ‘qualified spend’ was linked to that purchase? If you used an OD GC vs a merchandise credit, I’d contact the rewards center to get it straightened out. Honestly, I’ve never had a problem, but I have used all my up as of earlier in 2019 so can not offer a recent testimonial.
-
@mistercheap yes, my gift cards are from $40 paper rebates and like i said i never had problem using them and were counted as normal spending until July 13. The gc i used on july 13 has the credit from a return, but i can’t be certain if that card was given to me by the store or was originally from one of the rebates because physically they are identical. Also, i vaguely remember i asked them to put the credit into my existing gc (still had balance) instead of giving me another new card to carry. As far as calling the rewards department (which i did) it’s a total waste of time. Because they insisted both giftcards and rewards certificates had always been excluded from qualified purchases. I spoke to 2 reps and both said the same thing, that only cash, debit card and credit card purchases are counted as qualified purchase.

This may very well be your issue. once the store issued a ‘credit’ back onto the gift card, it may have changed how the system recognized it.
As for telling them apart, I highly suggest writing on them w/a Sharpie so you can keep track. ie, if you return something at the store and you get a merchandise credit, write on it 'MC $15.55" as an example for a $15.55 return on a mdse. credit. You can add other return amounts to a merchandise credit, but I’d never put a return amount back on the gift card for the reasons outlined.
I’d also try calling their executive offices to get your issue straightened out (sort of like office of the president w/Staples) I think OD’s headquarters are down in Florida.
GOOD LUCK.
-
If anyone wants real Office Depot gift cards. They are on sale for 20% off each Christmastime. I usually buy a few hundred dollars worth at that time and use them throughout the year on 100% back in rewards offers, etc. to make them 20% MMs (even though the MM is in rewards money).
-
@mistercheap Thank you! Now that i know physically same cards can be treated differently i will definitely remember to mark them.

remember, the packing list IS required for online purchase, so be sure to save it.

FYI,
If you bought 2 at once and are submitting for 2, per the rebate 800#, they told me to attach BOTH UPC forms to the one rebate form.
Since I bought online at office depot. I attached the original packing list AND a print out of the order confirmation since the packing list doesn’t show prices paid.

Anyone know if rebate works on Amazon order? I dont think AMZ puts a packing list in the delivery box if IIRC.

Amazon usually encloses a packing slip.

OD shows as a gift card/reward card on the packing list as payment, not a ‘coupon’ so definitely safe at OD.
Staples is another matter of course.

@gatorj I ordered from Amazon and my order did not include a packing list. I submitted the order confirmation and am keeping my fingers crossed.

I had a major brain fart… I knew better, I even posted about it but I used Rewards to pay for an order of 2 boxes pens, $13.45 ea. Packing List format now shows Rewards used as coupon applied. So I brought pens to store to return/rebuy. Return went fine. Received a balance coupon for the Rewards. Bought the pens again. They rang up 50¢/box of 12 because they were clearanced from stores. In the end I paid the same as it would have cost me in postage to submit the rebate but not what I was trying to do.

Has anyone received their rebate? I’m still waiting on mine. Submitted at end of July.

Payment (whether or not in the form of a check) is en route or will be sent shortly. Often used as an excuse to avoid the pressure of creditors or someone expecting payment.
