FYI, some chains have a spend $300 by Thanksgiving, earn a free turkey (J4U activation req 'd, tracks spend). after reading the T&C can’t find where GC’s are excluded, so buying these MAY (repeat MAY) give you $200 towards a free turkey. HIGH YMMV, I’ll report back later in the week, if someone else has update sooner if they count, please post in thread.

yes but be discreet about it.
The register will accept it, but if the cashier know about it they would probably not allow it. Most of the time at my local stores they ask to see the card and your ID, so that wouldn’t fly in my area.

I just bought 2 $100 MasterCard gift cards at my local Safeway affiliate (Vons) and no where on the receipt does it mention me earning points towards a turkey, so either gift cards don’t count or only certain Safeway affiliates are offering the turkey promo and not others. Not sure which.
EDIT: Nevermind. I missed the part about J4U activation required. However, after the fact I went to my J4U coupons and I could not find a coupon about a free turkey with a $300 spend. Where did you find the offer om J4U? Under which category? I looked under “meat” and “special offers” and found nothing, so maybe Vons is not participating?

Under my Acme J4U account, on the left side of the page under “Events”, one that’s listed is “Free Turkey”. Check off that box and it will bring you to that digital coupon.

It looks like they’ve cracked down on buying prepaid Visa/MC with prepaid cards. Yes, supposedly against a (stupid) policy to do so, but the I have done so many times in the past if the cashier would allow it. But today, it didn’t work. At checkout, when I swiped a prepaid card to attempt to pay, the system gave a “not authorized” message and I had to pay with a regular CC. Jewel in the Chicago area.

Yes, that has been reported in the Safeway thread on SD. Also, auto-drain no longer works, even for regular groceries. Supposedly buying GC with the Safeway GC still works, which does not make sense if they want to restrict the prepaid Visa/MC.

I bought $50 Shaw’s gc on Amazon for $10 credit on Amex.
Used the $50 Shaw’s gc to buy MC gc at Shaw’s.
Used the MC gc to buy Visa gc at Staples last week. Took those to WM for a m.o.Staples has no activation fee MC gc this week if you have a way to liquidate MC gc.

Thanks for heads up on not being able to use a Visa or Master GC to buy another one like in the past. I tried too yesterday got ‘Not Authorized’. I already have 4x $100 Master GC and don’t want to accumulate more if they can’t be recycled. Damn … the gravy train just ended.
I don’t understand what’s the harm in using a GC to buy another one. In fact, these are supposed to be used anywhere that Visa or Master cards are accepted.

@mmyk Staples has no activation fee MC this week and no activation fee Visa next week. I wasn’t going to get MC gc but now that we have Visa’s at Staples next week I’ll do it.

@my4mainecoons I’ve never been able to use a Visa or MC GC to buy another GC in Staples. So there isn’t much advantage to get more GC for me.
