@mrvietnam Since this deal went live several days ago, I’ve referred 2 friends who have both used my link to make the first >$10 purchase with their linked cards. I don’t see my bonuses (yet).

did they make them in store CONTACTLESS? appears that’s the only way you get the bonus. or if they send a friend money.

I thought, as per the other thread, that you just need to activate the card and use it. Or is that for the offer and you need to use contactless pay to get the referral bonus?

I will buy a gift card on both my Google Pay and my wife’s and report back later what cashback has tracking on our Google Pay accounts.

Just got back from Target. I bought two $50 gift cards. One on my linked credit card and one on my wife’s linked credit card and I got the $21 cashback from the Target deal posting on both accounts. However, no tracking for the $21 referral deal because I didn’t know at the time the purchase had to be contactless (which Target supports by the way). So I will send $10 to my wife and have her send it back to me to get the $21 referral bonuses.

@mrvietnam Are P2P transfers fee free? Do you need a linked bank account?

They probably are free. I tried to link my wife’s savings account and it looks like it linked OK, but when I try to send me $10 from it it comes up with some error message that they could not complete the transaction. My wife does not have a checking account. The exact error I get is “Something went wrong. Transaction could not be completed,”
-
I’m a little confused by this. It says both parties must be opted in to google pay in the first term, but the second one says that they must be new to google pay.
If I send referral to a friend should they have google pay already set up or not?
-
@vegasvegan Send referral link to friends that have never installed the app. They click your link and get sent to Google Play to install Google Pay. Your referral code is magically recognized when they install.
-
My wife added her SAVINGS account to Google Pay. She has tried several times to send me $10, but each time the transaction is declined and we’re not sure why or how to find out why. Are savings accounts allowed or must the added bank account be a checking account? We are trying to get the $21 referral bonus for each of us, but Google Pay sure isn’t making it easy. She can’t do the purchase option because she has an iPhone and contactless payment (to satisfy the promo requirements) has to be an Android advice, unless I’m wrong. It’s near impossible to contact Google Pay either by chat or by phone. They are not taking phone calls and I haven’t figured a way to chat with them.

I just linked PayPal to Google Pay.
The $10 refund to my Referral Friend was deducted from PayPal/Chase Checking.
Waiting to verify that he got his second bonus.

using a linked Bank Account, they are free. but can take 3-5 biz days to process.
there is a fee using a debit/credit card to fund sending $ to another person.

@mistercheap Friend sent me $10 via GP to trigger our referral bonuses. Transferred $10 to my checking. Sent $10 back to friend. (refunded).

I think I will just have my wife open one of those no fee Internet checking accounts and see if the system will take a checking account. Perhaps that was the problem.
She does have a Pay Pal account though, so I think I will try that option first. Remember these offers, including the referral ones giving $31 a pop, all end on or before 12/31/20. I think the sooner you try to redeem them the better as MC pointed out they do put in the caveat “While Supplies Last”.

I think I will just have my wife open one of those no fee Internet checking accounts.> Checkout Swagbucks offers. eg Aspiration gives you 6000 Swagbucks back (=$60) for new accounts. Also you could consider Amex Bluebird and Serve.

If you’re going to open an account, at least get one that will give you an opening bonus. Chase maybe?

Sonofzeua, how did you use Pay Pal to send money with Google Pay? When I go online to pay.google.com it allows me to attach my wife’s Pay Pal account, but when I go online to the Google Pay app on her smartphone and try to pay me $10 from that Pay Pal account it is not listed. It just gives the option of debit card or bank account, but not Pay Pal. How did you link your Pay Pal to Google Pay and successfully pay via Pay Pal in the Google Pay app?
-
@mrvietnam Under “add account” I was given PayPal as an option. IDK if everyone gets the same option. After I sent money, the history shows it came from my JPMorganChase checking linked to PayPal.
-
Strange. For me the only options listed on the Google Pay app were for DEBIT CARD or BANK ACCOUNT and under BANK ACCOUNT Pay Pal was not an option (I even searched for it.) I wonder why different people get different payment options? I was able to add Pay Pal to her Google account online at pay.google.com. but it doesn’t show up on the Google Pay app for some reason,

Possible explanation: I had the PayPal app on my phone before installing the GP app.

@dangeruss I always tell newbies: KISS. Many banks have fewer hurdles to earn their new checking bonuses than JPM.

I now have $21 available in my Google Pay from a referral. I additionally referred my wife. Can I send $10 to her and she send the $10 back to me and would that satisfy her requirement of her sending $10 to someone new to Google Pay? I have requested them to take $10 out of her savings account and add it to her Google Pay. Maybe I should let that process play out and then have her send that $10 to me. I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize us both getting the $21 referral bonus.

Google Pay Lowers Referral Bonus From $21 to $1-$10
Google Pay was offering $21 for referring a friend and $21 to the new member. However, they’ve just lowered the referral bonus to just $1-$10 for the referrer and $1-$5 for the new member. They did remove the $10 spend requirement under the new referral offer – no minimum purchase/send now. Shows an expiration of 2/1/21 now.
Initially I was still seeing the $21 offer, but after closing out the app and reopening, I see it changed down.
Anyone who signed up before the moment of change (whenever exactly that was) should still get the $21/$21 bonus, even if you meet the requirement later. But if you signed up after the change I’d guess you’ll only get the $1-$10/$1-$5 bonus, even if you generated the link while it said $21. That’s just my guess.
Strangely, I can’t seem to find where they even say what the qualifications are to increase the bonus from $1 to $10 or from $1 to $5. I must be missing it in the terms somewhere.
The referral limit remains at 3, as before. (Initially it had been 10, but was lowered down to 3 where it remains.)
