@kohlspowrshopper said in KOHLS: Apparent end of 30% off 'Generic' Codes for Kohls cardholders (see post):
Amid slow sales of 2020, Kohl’s apparently finally caught on that its generic 30% off and free shipping cardholder codes were being redeemed by any cardholder savvy enough to find the codes online, regardless of which savings codes each cardholder actually received in the mail.
In October 2020, Kohl’s started enforcing MVC requirements (cardholders who spend $600 in a calendar year) by restricting MVC free shipping codes to MVC cardholders only, thereby cutting off a steady stream of non-MVC cardholders who regularly redeemed the codes, unchecked.
Department-specific codes dwindled throughout 2020, terminating in December; in 2021, Kohl’s has, instead, been offering department-wide sales and an occasional extra 15% or 20% off to encourage business.
At the end of January 2021, generic 15/20/30% cardholder codes for the February 5-15 cardholder event were available and showing in Wallet as pending; however, a few days later, Kohl’s invalidated those codes and rolled out unique promo codes for the cardholder event, instead, limiting each code to a maximum of five uses.
Much wailing about the five-use limit apparently caused Kohl’s to re-think the restrictions, as Kohl’s has doubled the number of uses for the current March cardholder event (Mar 25-Apr 03, 2021).
Historically, Kohl’s has held two cardholder events in March (one at the beginning of the month and an extra one near the end, to culminate at Easter) and in August (to accommodate varying back-to-school start dates); however, the first March event was pulled off the table this year, forcing cardholders to wait over a month between events.
Kohl’s did continue to offer Mystery Codes up to 40% off at the end of the January and February cardholder events; hopefully, this bonus will survive the chopping block…
To entice customers into shopping during the dry spells when there is no extra 15% or 20% savings code, Kohl’s has started quietly placing unique codes in Wallet for an Extra $5 off $25 Purchase; the February code was limited to Card Members; I do not know if the March one was, as well…
If this trend continues, it is my expectation that future bonus savings will be limited to $-off codes, such as $10 off $25 Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day, $10 off $50 Mothers Day and Fathers Day gifts, and something special for the holidays in November and December.
Be right back, I’m off to short Kohl’s stock (KSS: NYSE)
Just kidding, absolutely do not do that, that stock is on a tear. Plus its a Sunday and the market is closed.
