Thanks! Currently looking for a deal on a 14 or 15 inch laptop, and this is an awesome deal on a protective backpack.

RE: Official REDBOX Video Rental Codes Master Thread
Dumb question number 326 (LOL) - How do I find and set up Redbox for rentals, using codes, and using my free rental points on my Samsung SmartTV (3 years old)? We use Amazon Prime. I did look on the Redbox website, but I couldn’t figure out how to find and set up the Redbox app on our TV. Thanks.

Yes, just turn them in by 7/31
Thanks. I just started doing the OD batteries and cartridges a few months ago, and my brain suddenly went blank on this. I’ve done the Staples cartridges for years.

RE: Walmart’s answer to Amazon Prime set to launch in July, according to report
The + is a thank you for your reporting, not for the Walmart+ idea. I haven’t read about this before - should be interesting to watch how well or how poorly it does. I won’t subscribe, but it might appeal to some.

RE: Coke Rewards Official thread
I received an email today entitled “Your 2019 AMC Concession Award” which said this: In 2019 you won a reward for an AMC concession. If you’ve been holding on to it and have not redeemed your concessions item, the expiration date will now be extended to 12/31/20 to account for theatre closures. Please note that this only applies to AMC concessions rewards that cite a 6/30/20 expiration date and that have not been used yet.

RE: Office Depot 25% off select items when you buy online/PU in store Case Spring Water $2.99, Ream Paper $4 can pay w/rewards. Thu/Fri/Sat only
These are local, and I can pick them up right away as we do have an event coming up on the 11th where we will use masks, sanitizer and social distancing. With eBay, they may or may not arrive on time. Plus, I’ve already seen the ones at Staples and Office Depot and am satisfied they’ll be good enough for our requirements.

RE: Office Depot 25% off select items when you buy online/PU in store Case Spring Water $2.99, Ream Paper $4 can pay w/rewards. Thu/Fri/Sat only
Thanks, Mistercheap. We’re hoping to open our local county Democratic Headquarters on August 1 IF it is safe to do so. Our chairman agreed with me that not one person will set foot inside the building without a mask, and we are buying disposable masks to hand out to anyone who arrives without one. I priced boxes of masks today at Staples and Office Depot here. Every one was Made in China. OD price on the brands they have in store is $29.99, while Staples price on the brands they have in store is $32.99 Now I get on PhatWallet, and you’ve got a Hot Deal on the masks
! (grin) Much appreciated. -

@ukedog My bad. I just tried to pay for a PLUS membership w/ Rewards and it didn’t work. Sorry.
Thanks for the info. I have the same problem - my Plus membership is expiring this month, has an auto-renew, and I don’t see way to get a discount on it. I have Rewards, but now I know I can’t use those. Sigh.

Could I use both codes on a $100 offer to get $30 off, or do I need to order $150 of stuff in order to use both codes? Thanks.

RE: Which Lenovo laptop would you choose, and why/why not?
@dangeruss said in Which Lenovo laptop would you choose, and why/why not?:
Dell Refurbished Dell Latitude 14 7000 Series (E7470)
Nice find, dangeruss. Looking at the What’s In The Box section, it shows “Tested/Functional Dell Battery (Minimal initial battery life is 1.5 hours, many models will exceed this.)” What on earth is this 1.5 minimal initial battery life? That is not long at all if you’re working off-grid.
And no, he doesn’t do cartridge recycling. He doesn’t buy much more than a few pens and pencils and maybe a ream of printer paper once a year, unless I give him some from my stash.
-
RE: Which Lenovo laptop would you choose, and why/why not?
He has a limited amount of money to spend (don’t we all?), so trying to keep it to around $400 plus tax (practically impossible unless we luck into a big sale). I think he might be able to go up to around $450 plus tax, though. He’s got a lot of health issues as well as a fair amount of insomnia, so he’s in his recliner a lot and depends on the laptop and a smooth connection with his TV across the room. He’s wishing for a fairly lightweight 15 Inch, SSD, 8 Gig, Win10, using it a lot for streaming movies and YouTube tutorials to his TV and for watching streaming live feeds from things like an eagle nest cam, the streaming surf cam at Outer Banks, Facebook and other social media, social meeting apps like Zoom, definitely at least a 1 year warranty included in the pricetag. Since no laptops these days come with a CD player/burner, my husband and I will surprise him with an external one for his birthday. It’s a major investment for him, so getting one that fits his needs is especially important.

RE: Which Lenovo laptop would you choose, and why/why not?
Back to Staples and Office Max with my retired Vet friend, and neither of these is suitable for his needs once we asked a lot more questions and dug down to the details. Thanks anyway, dangeRuss. And apparently I don’t have permission to delete this thread, or I would.

Which Lenovo laptop would you choose, and why/why not?
Are either of these a “Hot Deal”? Which Lenovo laptop would you choose? Good points, bad points? Retired Army Vet friend has max of $400 to spend replacing his 8-year-old laptop that died, and wants to buy it locally, not online. I found two Lenovo brand laptops in his budget. STAPLES - Lenovo I5, 1 YEAR OLD DEMO, 15.6", 8 gig, $399.46 clearance, supposedly was $699.99, no warranty because it was their demo for a year. Sorry, didn’t get a lot of detail because no tech was available to talk with and my husband was in a hurry; OFFICE DEPOT (still OfficeMax here) - NEW Lenovo IP3, with I3 processor, 15.6", 8 gig, 1 TB HDD, media card, HDMT, VGA, Win10, WiFi, Bluetooth, can expand memory up to 20gig, 7 hour battery life, 1 year warranty, $379.99, supposedly regularly $489.99.
My friend is a retired Veteran with health issues and spends a lot of time at home. He uses the laptop for social media, connecting to TV to stream movies, YouTube tutorials, etc, uses more than one browser, streams live feeds (eagle cam, Outer Banks surf camera, etc.), uses video meet apps like Zoom, has an 2 to 3 year old inkjet printer, and takes the laptop on trips occasionally. He wanted one with a CD read/write so he could burn old family photos and videos to CDs, and occasionally edit the videos. At his price range, that’s not going to happen, of course. Advice, please? Thanks! -
RE: Staples has Fresh Food
The prices may be more expensive, but if you are turning in ink cartridges, it is another way to save on your grocery bill. Currently I use the rewards to get toilet paper and paper towels whenever I don’t need toner as I still have plenty of printer paper.

RE: Disney's Kitchen Sink Dessert, PB&J Milkshake, Tonga Toast, Grey Stuff, Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup, Monte Cristo, Beignets, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Cookie Fries, Woody's Grilled Cheese, Dole Pineapple Whip, & Disney Churros
I tried the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup recipe, and it is tasty. I used a Dutch oven on top of my stove. Be aware it is quite thick when done, and it gets porridge-thick when cooled down and refrigerated. I thinned it a bit with a little more broth, a touch more ale, and a little more milk when reheating it. You definitely need to use an immersion blender at the end of the cooking to blend the ingredients into a fairly smooth (and thick) soup. We enjoyed it with thick slices of dense French bread (Italian would be good too), buttered and lightly toasted in the oven.

RE: Free Star Wars Backgrounds for Video Calls
Awesome! Now how do I use them when making a video call? Can you babystep me through how to have one of those backgrounds show up instead of my living room, for example, when I’m on a video call? Will my laptop’s video camera superimpose me over one of these background images so that it looks like I’m making the call from one of those locations instead of my living room? Thanks.

RE: FREE: DoubleTree Revealed Its Famous Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe For the 1st Time
Thanks! My favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe is from America’s Test Kitchen and calls for browning the butter first - makes a big difference in taste. I’m going to try this recipe - the bit of lemon juice is a surprise, but it must brighten and enhance the flavor in some way or it wouldn’t be in there.

RE: OFFICE DEPOT Free a/Rewards Duracell Optimum 12 pack AA/AAA batts lim 4 total, INK RECYCLE SUSPENDED
Thanks. I was wondering if they would still have this offer. At least Staples is still doing the recycling with the printable labels on their website. I boxed up 20 a few days ago, then dropped them at our Staples since I had to be in town for groceries. I wrote on the label “20 ink cartridges for recycling” on the label that I used on the box, which I hope will allow the Staples processor to just credit my cartridges without having to open the box and handle them. I wore a mask, went to the UPS station, was told they are not allowed to handle any packages and to drop the box in the bin myself, which was fine with me, and the UPS driver would be scanning in all packages and envelopes in the bin before putting them on the truck. I did make a copy of the label I used for my records and wrote down the date I dropped the box in the Staples bin.

RE: Staples.com Online Dollar Off Codes + FS: $15 off $60+ AC, Exp 06-08-2020, Paper Reams $3.50 ea w/emailed code free dlv, limit 3
Thanks for the tip, UkeDog. The drum and the toner are both expensive, so if it’s just a minor exterior problem and the drum is not damaged, it would sure help the budget. I do have Prime, so that helps a lot. I normally don’t take a chance on generic for my printer since it’s essential for my SOHO. Just checked the price on Amazon for the Brother Genuine Drum Unit, and it’s only a couple dollars cheaper than Staples. The generic off-brands are less than half that price.

@dionaea That’s assuming that the gravel company is still working. Under lockdown, all nonessential businesses have had to close, and I’m not sure gravel falls under essential.
dangeruss, I wasn’t talking about getting gravel while this mess is ongoing. Gravel is definitely not an essential item unless your home was destroyed at the time the tornadoes came through and you’re trying to rebuild. I’m saying that once it is safe (whenever that will be), we will try to aid some of the small local businesses here, including a local gravel company. Sorry I wasn’t clear before.

RE: Free Sleep Better Audible Audiobook
Reviews are pretty good, and apparently the overly loud “You’ve been listening to Audible…” has been moved to the beginning of the audio after numerous complaints that if you drifted off to sleep listening to this, you’d be suddenly jarred awake at the end by the Audible message. Now you hear it at the beginning instead.

Wow, thank you so much! I’ve been stopping by my local Hallmark Cards store to get the Free Friday card, but now we’re doing a Staycation because we’re older, a higher risk category. Writing letters and sending cards to friends, especially a couple of close friends who already have serious health issues, is enjoyable and brightens their day as well as mine.

RE: Stimulus: Government To Send Out $1,200 Checks/Direct Deposits To Most US Residents; Expanded Unemployment & More
dangeRuss, it’s not a perfect solution, but it will help. For example, when my husband and I get the checks (we’re struggling on SS), we plan to spend some of it for things we haven’t been able to afford. One will be to get the driveway graveled, which it hasn’t been for several years and is a muddy track. That will pass some money on to a local gravel company which will be able to pay for gas and a driver to bring the gravel to us. We plan to spend some to hire a small-job carpenter to fix the shed double doors and to build a cover over that part of the shed. So that much of the money will help the carpenter pay for gas and food and rent or mortgage. When the average person spends the money, it will put it back into circulation, and those that receive it will spend it too, rinse, repeat. When Big Business gets the money, they use it to buy back stock and pay bonuses to top-level executives, taking the money out of circulation (well, except for luxury car manufacturers, high-end resorts and hotels, vacations at exclusive locations, designer bespoke clothes, etc.)

RE: A grocery store threw out $35,000 in food that a woman intentionally coughed on, sparking coronavirus fears, police said
I read about this. Unbelievable when truckdrivers and stores are doing all they can to be sure there are at least some edibles on the shelves for hungry families. The suggestions I saw on a FB post about this mostly said that if she tests negative for coronavirus, she should be assigned to a hospital that is treating coronavirus patients, make sure she has no protections, and have her do menial tasks where she will have contact with coronavirus patients.
