I actually got another one of these before the deal ran out. Seems rare for me!

RE: Difference between Savings account return and CDposted in Finance
I just sort of figured out the formula and created a really simply spreadsheet and it looks even with adding the prior months Interest into the principal and compute the next month interest on increased balance it still is less at the end of 12 months than the CD. I guess I needed a reminder of the definition of “APR”

Difference between Savings account return and CDposted in Finance
I readily admit I’m not the smartest person AND I’ve attempted to research the question. Please be gentle. In any case…a person wants to compare how much interest would be earned/paid when comparing a Savings Account vs 1 yr CD. Say a Savings Account shows 2.2% vs. High-Yield 1 yr CD of 2.75%. Both compound daily yet the CD only pays the interest at the end of the term and the Savings Account credits/deposits the earnings monthly. Presume money won’t be needed for the term of the CD so gut response would be buy CD for higher yield. However, I feel the compounding effect of the Savings account, each month increasing balance, would reduce the benefit of the slightly increased interest rate. I’ve attempted to find a formula to compare but have been unable to do so. Perhaps I’m not seeing how to look at this but really I’ve tried. Even broke out the spreadsheet and played. Thoughts?

RE: walmart-is-planning-to-sell-its-own-tabletsposted in Deal Discussion
First tablet I ever bought was a Hisense Sero 7 pro from WalMart. I believe they were the exclusive vendor for the product and sort of equated Hisense with WalMart like Insignia with Best Buy. Worked great until one day it wouldn’t power up. Still have it and will explore further at some point (already checked battery).

I guess I contributed to their demise as I’ve not been inside one of their stores for years and years. One more soon to be vacant store in my closest mall.

RE: Chamberlain/Liftmaster MyQ 888LM Control Panel - Freeposted in Expired Deals
I’m also getting the 404 error so manually went into liftmaster.com and searched for the product model number. I found this:
888LM Quality Program:
*We have resolved the loss of function affecting some of our LiftMaster 888LM Control Panels. These units were packed in with garage door opener models 8500 and 8500C, and/or sold as an accessory, such as MYQPCK.While the incidents of improperly functioning units are low, we are extending the warranty for affected customers until September 2023.*
For any customer who wishes to receive a replacement 888LM Control Panel for free, please use the following link to complete the form: Request Replacement 888LM.
The link mentioned above generates the same error.
I suspect if/when they fix the link folks will need to contact the company directly. Perhaps they received more requests than actual product ever sold. A derivative of the old “Fat Wallet Forum” effect. -

RE: Roll Call...who uses ShopSafe or Citi's "Virtual Account Numbers"?posted in Finance
I’ve used BofA Shop Safe several times especially on recurring payments type sites/purchases. Glad I did when I tried a low cost Cell Service that is known for continuing to charge even after cancellation along with non existent customer service. Yep, they tried to charge me for at least two months of service but I had created a $5 credit limit card number. Sorry mor info than requested. So, Yes I use/have used these services.

RE: Free TreeStuff T-Shirt for writing a product reviewposted in GPT
How can I get some FREE stuff?
Easy. Go to one of our product pages and write a product review (good or bad) of an item you own or have used before, along with #shirt. We’ll send you a free TreeStuff shirt. Remember to include “#Shirt”, your US mailing address, and your shirt size in the text of the review. This is how we find your review and send out your shirt, so you must include #Shirt to receive a free shirt.
If you send us a video review of a product, we’ll give you a $10 TreeStuff Gift Certificate! http://www.treestuff.com/news.asp?news_id=2201

RE: FIXED! (W7 laptop won't shut down, won't boot up, keeps cycling...)posted in Technology
It’s already not functioning properly so pull the battery to shut it down. Depending on the make/model entering BIOS is often via different keys. Most common is Delete key, Sometimes one of the “F” keys (F2 seems popular) while powering up. I’m suspecting something corrupted in Win7. Normally one asks if there have been any programs installed recently that might have caused the issue but it appears your shut down issue has been around and now gotten worse.

RE: Prime Day Deal: Instant Pot DUO60 6 Qt 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker $59 + FS/Prime (As Low As $39 With Stacked Deals) @ Amazon.composted in Expired Deals
Initially this went in and out of stock pretty quickly. I missed out and then was stuck in logon hell when Amazon site was acting up and that issue was reported elsewhere. Later in the day I tried, via phone app, and it allowed me to put 2 in my cart. I emptied cart and was allowed to add just the one I wanted. I settled for the advertised price and did not attempt any other price reductions. So far so good. If you see any other “deals” today and have issues keep trying.

RE: 32GB SanDisk microSDHC Class 4 Memory Card (Bulk Packaged, No Adapter) $7.64 + FS AC @ SanDisk.composted in Expired Deals
For those who missed out, don’t sweat it. I confirmed the capacity using one of the tools that wrote and read the entire card, then reformatted fine. Put it into a tablet and it showed needing a format. Odd, but OK as it would never format in tablet (Windows 10). Put card into full size SD adapter and attempted to format in a Win 10 desktop and it always failed. Attempted to place in a USB adapter and it snapped in half. Disappointed and won’t even attempt to return due to physical damage. I think this is the first time I ever snapped a Micro-SD card in half.

RE: Recall: Pre-cut Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Honey Dew Melon, & Mixed Fruit Due to Salmonellaposted in Deal Discussion
Oh great!! I just finished a container of said items a couple days ago. First I wonder how long before symptoms appear and then figure/hope it wasn’t from Caito of Indianapolis when I bought it in New Mexico at Albertsons. Another reason I should listen to my inner cheap self and buy the whole melon and cut it up instead of paying more for pre-cut pieces.

RE: depleat savings to payoff/pay down mortgage?posted in Finance
Probably not the strongest reply especially at PhatWallet but why not split the difference and just round up your monthly payment so extra can be applied to principal each month?? I suspect at least one other person will lay out the math behind their response more succinctly but this has worked for me. How far you “round up” will be your decision but that way you still have cash and you can see your balance decrease more quickly.

RE: Over-the-air TVposted in Technology
I’d go to antennaweb.org and enter your address. It will show a map image of the directions to your broadcasting stations. Not sure why it worked in the past and not now but the breakup and no longer received is probably a lack of signal strength issue. I somewhat doubt the station reduced power or moved antenna but I guess it’s possible.
