If you haven’t already recycled your ink carts for November, WAIT! Staples is doing $4 per recycled cart 11/10-11/16 as part of their America Recycles Day Event. Assuming you have met the $30 in ink/toner purchase(s) in the past 180 days requirement.
Double rewards on ink & toner recycling
Valid 11/10/2019–11/16/2019 in Staples® U.S. stores. Earn $4 back in Staples Rewards ® on each ink or toner cartridge recycled if the member has spent at least $30 in ink and/or toner purchases at Staples over the previous 180 days. Price eligible for meeting minimum spend requirement is amount paid at checkout after application of all promotions, coupons, instant savings, and rewards redemptions and does not include tax or shipping. Standard monthly Ink Recycling Rewards will be excluded from recycled cartridges earning $4 back. Wow! Haven’t seen this kind of offer for a long long time.

Yes, bummer I recycled for this month already.

I recycled 5 yesterday, but I’ll turn in 20 during that week to see what happens.
-
@c3 are you hoping they will ignore the first 5 you recycled?
They used to offer double recycling weeks so I’m in the habit of recycling the last week of the month. The risk is what happened last week when I recycled at 8PM on Oct. 31.

Yes. The cost of 5 cartridges is negligible.

What happened last week?
-
@c3 Nothing except that I didn’t recycle until the last minute-- nearly missed it.
-
great!!
was going to run by Staples today in fact but not now. Will definitely do this next week.
BTW, many of us signed up last BF time for the Staples Plus program, and that runs out (for me 11/24). (pay $49, got a $20 staples coupon promo).
So not sure how long you have to be out of the program to sign up as a ‘new member’ again assuming there’s a special in December 2019. Not going to pay $49 with no incentive, think there was a $20 new member offer not too long ago.
-
Since I recycled on 11/1 already, there is no way I could get this promotion, right? Even if I recycled 20 more carts next week, they would pay me for the 20 I recycled first. I agree with Maine. I think I will start recycling at the end of the month rather than the beginning. My punctuality cost me $40 in this instance. However, I bet this double credit for cart recycling is only a once a year thing.
-
@mistercheap it was $29 for Amazon Prime Day and a month (?) after. In that thread someone who had Plus wanted to renew for $29 but couldn’t. Can’t recall if he posted how long he needed to wait before he was eligible for a new member deal again.

Pretty sure there was a $19.95 offer, not $29.

yeah, it’s a bummer when that happens. at least OD’s offer is the entire month, Staples should mirror their offer, not this one week where people who already recycled last week get the shaft.

Amen to that.

@mistercheap I think “shaft” is a little harsh. Most experienced recyclers did it at the end of the month. When the surprise weekly promos disappeared I thought about recycling earlier in the month but really nothing to gain by doing that. I recall having double ink recycling in a week that spanned end of the month and beginning of a new month. We got double for 2 mo. doing that. It’s the only time I’ve recycled at the beginning of a month.

yes, just a figure of speech, but…still, if you already recycled like @MrVietnam has, you are pretty much out of luck. So call it what you like…but, it’s a rather inflexible policy on Staples part. Let’s face it if you PURCHASED a computer last week for $400 and it went on sale a week later for $320, they’d give you $80 back within a window of time, no such consideration on the ink recycle.
-
This is LIVE now and will last through Saturday for those who have yet to recycle this month at Staples. You can make an extra $40 if you recycle this week (and are a Premier member)., If you are not Premier you can recycle 10 cartridges and make an extra $20.
On a personal note, starting in December I will be waiting until the last week of the month to recycle, so I will not have to forego free money anymore for recycling early and later having a double rewards promotion come out afterwards. Granted these double rewards offers are very few these days, but there is nothing gained by recycling early in the month.
Does anyone know if Staples Rewards can be used to buy postage stamps like they can at Office Depot?
-
Does this apply to Staples Plus members, or just premier accounts?

It applies to everyone. As a Staples Plus member you can recycle 20 ink carts and make $80 this week, as long as you have made your ink purchase of $30 or more sometime within the last 180 days.

If you spend > $75 on ink this week you’ll earn 25% back in Rewards instead of the usual 5%.
Unlike the online offers this one B&M only includes HP.
Recently all the online ink deals have excluded HP.

Recently all the online ink deals have excluded HP.I hound ink is more expensive in store than it is online, about 25% more expensive in some cases. At least that was the case when I bought my Brother toner cartridge, so the 25% you get in Rewards will be about the everyday online price with no rewards to have to liquidate.

In the past I’ve been able to price match the online price in store.
BTW, You can get 10% back with your Chase cash back card. Requires activation, and ends today.

Do you guys buy ink to resell? I have no use for staples ink, but need to buy $30+ every 6 months. If you do resell, which ones do you buy?

I usually buy HP ink and resell it on eBay. I’m not sure if the brand makes much difference though. My last purchase was $50+ since Staples Plus gives me 10% Staples Rewards back on ink purchases, and I need at least $5 to get the rewards.
I check eBay “sold” listings for various cartridge types to get an idea how much I’ll be able to get back.

I usually buy HP, and it’s whichever cartridge is not on special sale, and is the least amount over the $30 threshold. I’ll then list it up on eBay for maybe $20, and if it doesn’t sell, then I get $2 back for in on the next recycling cycle the next month.

I would contact rewards customer service and inquire. Did it show $80 for other people? I can’t do this offer because I recycled already on 11/1, but maybe someone else can chime and tell us if they received $80 when they did it.
-
Portion from my chat with customer service.
STAPLES: The $4 for your Ink and toner rewards will be issued on the next scheduled payout that is from your November ink recycling.
8:15 amWill the purchase details in my account be updated to reflect the correct amount of the rewards?
8:16 amSTAPLES: Yes it will be updated.
8:16 amSo then I will be getting $80 in rewards rather than $40?
8:16 amSTAPLES: That is correct.

If you just want the recycling upgrade, you can get a Staples More card and get the Premier upgrade for free.
No annual fee on the card, but I guess there’s a credit pull.
-
My ink Rewards check is $80 this month. I didn’t think we’d see the bonus until next month.

I’m surprised that Staples has not fixed these bugs.

@c3 So its a bug and not that we were to receive the $4/cart this month? It would be nice if I got another $80 next month.
If I save my Rewards hoping for another $80 next month then I’ll only get $40 in Dec.
If I spend my Rewards on BF then I bet I’ll get another $80 in Dec.
Currently have $120 expiring in December as well as a $20/$20. Could get something nice with $220…

Huh? I don’t understand your comment.
-
Non-Plus members can use recycling rewards online again. The fine print for the rewards issued a few days ago was already updated to remove that restriction.
-
Received $4 x 15 cartridges during the bonus week + $2 x 5 cartridges before the bonus week = $70, which is correct.
-
@c3 I received $80 last month and $80 this month. I’d wondered if the $80 last month was them giving me the bonus early but you said it was a mistake. You were correct.
I bought $75 ink for 25% bonus so now have $215 to figure out what to do with.
Had another $40 expiring next week (CS issued) which I used yesterday so I wouldn’t have to worry about it.Also, presume folks all received emails saying there’s now 2% back in Rewards for online purchases.
