Abandon Ship, Time to cash in those Plenti Points, Macys is out 3/15/18

  • Dear Day Trader:

We want you to know that Macy’s will no longer participate in the Plenti® rewards
    program after 5/3/2018.

Here’s what that means. You can:

    • Earn Plenti points on qualifying purchases at Macy’s until 3/15/2018.

    • Earn Plenti points on qualifying purchases made outside of Macy’s with your
Macy’s American Express® card, that appear on statements with a statement closing date prior to 3/16/2018.

    • Use Plenti points for savings on qualifying purchases at Macy’s until 5/3/2018.

    • Continue to use any available Plenti points that haven’t expired for savings on
eligible purchases at other participating Plenti partners after 5/3/2018.

As a valued Macy’s American Express Cardholder, you are still a top priority.
You’ll continue to get rewarded when you use your Card outside of Macy’s
but in a whole new way. Stay tuned for the exciting details and thank you for
    your continued loyalty.

    Sincerely,
    Macy’s Loyalty Team

I was about to post this but you beat me to it, It seems like all the Plenti retailers one by one are leaving. I agree it would be a good time to use up those Plenti points before they become worthless when the entire Plenti program closes down, sometime this year is my guess.

Actually Macy’s isn’t officially out until 5/3/18, but you just cannot earn Plenti points at Macy’s anymore starting 3/15/18. My guess is by the middle of this year Plenti will be gone and so will your Plenti points if you don’t use them up.

I have $300 in Plenti points in two different accounts ($600 in total points), so I need to spend, spend, spend. 😉

Nonsense. AmEx won’t let people get screwed if Plenti is discontinued.

Plenti points themselves carry no cash value. Am Ex might do something. Perhaps let you transfer remaining balances to Am Ex Membership Rewards, but I highly doubt they are going to cut you a check for unused Plenti points, but time will tell of course. In my humble opinion, it is better to spend them now then hope on what Am Ex may or may not do. I do agree though that Am Ex has excellent customer service and if any credit card company was going to take care of you it would be Am Ex. I am almost postive Plenti will be discontinued. Exactly when is the only thing I am not totally sure about.

  • Agree. Yes, good idea to use them up and to get maximum value. I actually had stuff to buy at Macys and used up $200 of my points before this notice came out. Now my balance is zero. Am Ex does take care of their customers but we don’t know how they will do it. For example, every 4 plenty points could be converted to 1 Membership Rewards point.

    WHAT IS PLENTI?

Welcome. Plenti is a rewards program operated by American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. (referred to as “Plenti” or “we” or “us”). Plenti lets you earn Plenti rewards points (“Points”) by making qualifying purchases at certain retail and service companies (“Sponsors,” whom we may also refer to as “partners”) and through other promotions and offers that may be provided by Sponsors or other merchants. Fully enrolled Plenti members (“Members”) may use the Points they earn for savings at participating locations of specified Sponsors. Visit plenti.com/partners for a complete list of Sponsors, as well as complete information on where you can earn and use Points. Sponsors are subject to change at any time.

    DISCLAIMERS

You acknowledge and agree that you have no ownership rights in Points or your Plenti account. You further acknowledge and agree that you have no third-party beneficiary rights in any agreement between us and any Sponsor, and that the only relationship created by these Terms is one between you and us.

I have over $1k in plenti points and I’m going to be so screwed when they close down. I’ve only been using it for gas, so when exxon goes, I’m screwed.

Any way to churn the points into cash before everything crashes and burns?

  • @dangeruss

Macys may be your best bet but they are closing stores too. Need any clothes? I read that you cannot use plenti for furniture purchases but you can buy $207 worth of stuff online, then return at store for credit. Save up store credit for the furniture and buy at store.

“If you use Plenti points toward a Macy’s purchase and then return the item purchased, Macy’s may issue your refund through a Macy’s Happy Returns Card. If you use Plenti points toward a Macy’s purchase and the remainder is paid with a Macy’s Credit Card or Macy’s American Express Card, your return of such purchase may either be credited to your Macy’s credit account or refunded through a Macy’s Happy Returns Card. If you use Plenti points toward a macys. com purchase and use a Macy’s credit account to make the purchase, and the order is cancelled or an item is returned, we may refund the returned items through a Macy’s Happy Returns Card.”

  • Thanks for the notice will hit up rite aid today and use the point.

  • I have never accumulated large Plenti point balances since Rite Aid was (for me) the only place with meaningful earnings opportunities. I just rolled the points at Rite Aid except when drug stores was a 5% cash back category for my cc.

I got the points by rolling over my amex point balance when they were having the 50% bonus.

I do believe AMEX will allow them to be converted to ‘something’, whether that’s Amex Points, to be used on gift cards they link (since GC’s are part of Membership Rwards redemptions). Allowing them to become worthless could open them up to a good deal of negative publicity and possibly lawsuits depending on state consumer laws.

  • Important changes to Plenti

After May 3, 2018, Macy’s and Chili’s will no longer participate in the Plenti program. Members can continue to earn points on eligible purchases at Macy’s and participating Chili’s restaurants through March 15, 2018.

In addition, the Online Marketplace will no longer be available after March 15, 2018. Members can continue to redeem points on eligible purchases at Macy’s and participating Chili’s restaurants through May 3, 2018. After May 3, 2018, members will continue to have access to any available points and can use those points for savings on eligible purchases at participating Exxon and Mobil gas stations, Rite Aid stores and BI-LO, Winn-Dixie, and Harveys supermarkets.

Have you considered buying furniture at Macy’s? It isn’t bad quality, and there’s no way you can spend $1k on gas or at Chili’s.
