RE: New 5% account from Newtek Bank
In the FAQ it says "Withdrawals from your account can only be transferred to the original external funding source."
Just makes me wonder how many external accounts one can link and how they would keep track of where funds came from.

I really was hoping to see a column that indicates what type of 2FA these banks have. SMS 2-factor isn’t secure. If I’m putting a bulk of my savings here I don’t want bad security.

I have Primis back from when they were the rate leader at 5%. I’m grandfathered into that rate, but new customers get 4.77%. I opened the checking account instead of the savings to get the free checks. Incoming wires are free. Outgoing wires are $5. Overall a good set up. One key difference between them and other banks is that they pay out interest on the 15th of the month.
-
@mtnagel
Agree with jtownsucks46, get Primis checking 4.77%, and request free checks
Supplement with a savings account, like CFG @ 5.02%, so far = good
Just opened Newtek @ 5.00%, onboarding was easy, but too soon to evaluate.
Don’t really care for or have custodial accounts via savebetter

This is slightly off topic.
For those living in states with income tax, Vanguard Treasury MMF may be an equally attractive alternative. Its current 7-day yield is over 4.7% with no state tax. The duration is currently less than 30 days; and the yield will move up/down if interest rate goes up/down. So you don’t have to keep moving money around to get the best yield.
You can get in and out anytime just like the savings a/c with no 6 withdrawals/mo. limit. It also have check writing privilege. And you can set it up to send money to any financial institution you want; and it arrives at the destination the next day. You can also buy that fund through some discount brokerage firms.
The only possible negative for some is the $10K min. to open; but there is no minimum maintenance requirement.
Am I missing any thing?

Not FDIC insured?

The Vanguard Treasury MMF (and other treasury MMF) invests primarily in T-Bills (and potentially other Treasury securities). Therefore, all underlying assets are guaranteed by US Gov’t, which I think is better than FDIC insurance – for one thing there is no $250K limit,
