Double Ink Recycling at Staples B&M starts 8/9 ENDS 9/19!!

Double Recycling Rewards!
Begins on 8/9.
Get Double rewards on ink and toner cartridge recycling.
Offer valid in store only. See associate for details.

I have been taking a break from Staples recycling, but with double rewards I guess it would be a good time to start recycling again with Staples. I will have to buy new toner for my Brother laser printer, so I can cash in on the double ink recycling. You say it begins 8/9, when does it end? If I buy the toner today, I can still recycle this month (July) and get $40 for ink recycling this month, too. Can I buy the toner and recycle the same day or is it better to buy the toner first then wait a day or two to recycle? Since toner is cheaper online at Staples than it is in store, I will buy my toner in store but pricematch it with the online price and thus get the Staples 110% Pricematch Guarantee:
Here is how it works: If you find a currently available lower price on a new, identical item, show us the lower price when you buy the item at Staples and we will match it plus will discount it by 10% of the difference.
I am enjoying some kind of a glitch on Staples part. I have not spent more than $100 OOP in any given year for the last 5 years, but they still list me as a Premier member.
I hope in a few more months Office Depot does the same thing they did last year and give you double recycling EACH WEEK for a month. That was something special.
-
@mrvietnam I’ve been doing fairly well reselling ink on eBay that I get from staples. I would probably not buy toner there for myself as I’ve been able to get third party toner on ebay for much cheaper as well as some on facebook for free after review.
-
Nice. Been waiting on this after missing out the last time.

Yes, you can buy and recycle the same day (just save your receipts) and that purchase will grant you ink recycling through Jan 2021.

I’m wondering if OD will offer something similar that week. For that reason, I’m going to hold off bringing any carts to OD until later in August.
-
Thanks! Great timing. I was planning to drop off the cartridges on 8/1, since I’m going to the store on that day.

@my4mainecoons Where did you see the announcement? Store receipt?

yes.
btw, I suggest never recycling in the beginning of the month. You never know when they’ll surprise us and you can miss out if you recycle too early. I always recycle the last week of the month.
-
Reminder that you still have today and tomorrow to recycle for July. If you want to make a larger purchase that would give you another $40 to stack with the $80 you’ll earn from the double recycling.

Agreed. I used to do that before the frequent deals dried up. I just made the ink purchase requirement earlier this month and recycled last weekend.

So that means we can get the double ink rewards for two months in a row. Generous. The only more generous was a Office Depot last year who did double ink rewards WEEKLY for a month (I did it 5 times that month) and all you needed was a single $10 purchase for the month. I hope Office Depot does that this year, too.

This double ink recycling thing is great. But I don’t understand how Staples keeps afloat, between this and selling $0.25 items with free shipping and no minimum. It seems similar to the Sears/Kmart SYWR program “business model”, if you can call it that. And we saw how that turned out…

I have about 30-40 empty generic cartridges of my epson printer. Any idea where I could recycle them?

Not sure what you’re asking. If you want to get something for recycling them, then you have to buy something as well, either Staples or Office Depot.

While the 25¢ BTS products are designed to get customers into the store, the new improved web site doesn’t have an obvious link to the weekly ad on the home page. Idiots. We have Products, Deals, Services on one end of the header and on the other end Rewards, Worklife (WTH is that???), Lists and For Business. I obviously don’t think like their site designer because it took me a few guesses to find it and then it was in the form of graphics instead of a simple drop down list.

That person should have waited. 40% back wyb $75 of ink or toner. They no longer carry my favorite ink. Instead have a line of remanufactured inks branded Tru Red.

You only need to buy $30 to satisfy the requirement, so unless you really wanted to stock up at $75 worth (to get 40% back) which is still over $40 net oop after rewards may or may not be the best approach given most of Staples ink prices are kind of inflated to begin with.

Even if you don’t have Premier or Plus 40% of $75 = $30
$75 ink, recycle 10.
Get back $30/$75, $40 for recycling 10. Effectively $5 to recycle for the next 6 months.
3% back through TCB and 5% from cc negate sales tax.But yes, just spending $30 on ink is better deal if you don’t use ink.

Not only that Maine, in my case (and I’m sure others) some printers can take generic inks you can buy super cheap on Ebay or AMZ so no advantage to spending any more than $30. If you are locked into brand name inks or toner for your printer like HP or Samsung and you price match to spend $75 of fairly priced ink, it’s a good deal. or if you are going to try and flip it and recoup a fair portion of your OOP.

I recycled my 20 empties today and out printed a coupon for $10 off a $20 purchase and it doesn’t expire for 3 weeks.
If you need hand sanitizer, I noticed they were having a manager’s special for 169 fluid ounces of a no name brand hand sanitizer for $34.99. I wonder if my $10 off coupon would work on that. That would be a smoking hot deal if I could get it for $24.99. Maybe literally smoking hot if I stored it in a hot place. I would also have to make sure it had no wood alcohol (methanol) in it as an ingredient. Plus if you are Premier you would get 5% back in Rewards, too.

you should be able to stack your $10/20 with a rewards check too. won’t earn rewards, but stretches the value of your rewards value.

@mrvietnam FYI, the recalled hand sanitizers do not list methanol as an ingredient. They list ethyl alcohol as the ingredient, but instead contains methanol alcohol. So you have no way of knowing by looking at the label. (I think all the recalled hand sanitizers were made in Mexico so I would be wary of any hand sanitizer made in Mexico.)

Hey, thanks for the good information. Luckily the ones I got at Office Depot recently are made in China and the ones I got at Rite Aid are made in the USA (Germ-X).

I think what it means is that you will not be getting $2 (the standard amount) plus another $4. You will just get $4 per cartridge, At least that’s how I understand it.

That’s interesting. I recycled 20 cartridges on 8/9, but in purchase details it says I only earned $40 from that and not $80:
725137 725137 - INK RECYCLING LIMIT 10/MONTH 20 $0.01 -$0.20 $0.00 $40.00
For the rest of you who recycled during double recycling rewards, did you get the full $80 in rewards? Maybe Staples finally caught up with me. I haven’t qualified for Premier for years, but they still gave me the Premier benefits. Now it looks like that may have changed, even though at the top of the rewards page it still identifies me as a PREMIER customer.
-
Also, I bought toner on 7/29 anticipating the double reward promo starting 8/9 and on 7/30 I recycled 20 cartridges, but today when got the rewards earned from last month I only got $5 for regular rewards but nothing for ink rewards. Why would that be? In my purchase activity it said I earned $40 for that 7/30 20 cartridge recycling but I did not get rewards for it today, just the $5 regular rewards.
-
Can someone post the actual screenshot of this offer with all the fine print? Would be helpful for those who encounter problems getting proper credit if Staples CS has to be contacted when the checks drop in Sept.
@MrVietnam I can’t remember how they did it last year with this offer, if $80 shows up as the amount or its just a bonus amount that shows up in the check itself. I just turned my ink carts in yesterday, so won’t know my status for a few days, but I’m in that Staples Plus program (whatever it’s called) where you pay $49 a year ($24 in my case on a 1/2 price offer) and get 20 a month.

But why would it say as I posted “Limit 10 a month”? What I am thinking is that although my account says PREMIER they are treating me as a NON-PREMIER customer with the 10 a month limit. That is the way it should be as I have not qualified for Premier for years but have been enjoying Premier status. If they took me off Premier though why does it still say I am Premier on my account online?

Sometimes end of the month turn ins don’t reflect in time for checks to hit against them. I’d do a chat, Staples is good about issuing checks you rightfully earned but didn’t get.
They were very helpful with the mail in carts program when the lag on getting credited screwed me out of a month’s rewards. They issued them to me as I had the proof about 3 UPS shipments sent in. 2 got credited in the same calendar month and that’s why my 3rd month never got the $40.
-
Usually are ink rewards paid out on the same day as regular rewards? If I don’t chat will the ink rewards for July come later or will I just lose them?

Oh I see, but at the very least, wouldn’t you still get $20 for the 10? you got nothing. I’d take a screenshot of your ‘premier status’ on your panel and do a chat and see what you can negotiate with them.

typically, yes, they are, so give it another day or two at the most to see if they drop. otherwise do a chat or call.
