RE: Swiss Rolls, Ritz Crackers, Pepperidge Farm Gold Fish Recalled Over Possible Salmonella Contaminated Whey Powder - FDA Says List Will Grow
Kroger had Ritz crackers and Ritz bits as part of their Friday/Saturday only .99 sale a few weeks ago, and I purchased a couple boxes of the Ritz bits then. I’m taking them back to the store and will ask about exchanging them for boxes of Ritz crackers.

RE: Where is a reliable source to buy a replacement phone battery?
Our town has a store called Batteries and More (not sure of the name, but I can check tomorrow when I go into town and post it for you), and they carry a wide variety of cell phone batteries and can order what they don’t have in stock. I have an older-than-dirt Samsung clamshell, and they had the OEM battery for it in stock last year.

RE: Wonderful Pistachios Roasted and Salted 8oz @ CVS $2.99
There are only a few reviews, but the last one from a year ago said they were terrible, tasted burnt, and that the Wonderful brand seemed to have had several bad batches (again, the review is a year old). Has anyone else bought them recently and can say they’re now good? Thanks.

RE: Zicam Class Action Settlement
My husband used Zicam last year and the year before and noticed it made little if any difference in the length and symptoms of the colds for which he tried Zicam and the colds when he didn’t take Zicam. Thanks for the info on the claim.

RE: Free Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Event at Target on July 21
butterflyblue, may I suggest you do a search first before posting something? This is something that would be of interest for most anyone near a Target, but by searching for “Target” or “Harry Potter” in the search bar (the little magnifying glass on the upper right of the page), you would have been able to see that it was already posted and just liked the post to help move it up or added some information that will help those that want to go to the event.

RE: Free $10 off $10 Ebay Coupon
Got one, thank you, Tuskers. Time to stop by eBay again. Update: Worked smoothly, used PayPal, got a cute Yoga Frog on a carved stone “Restore Balance” for my garden. Balance is what I need restored today, perfect timing.

RE: Free Petsmart July Events
@tuskers Sorry, I should have mentioned that it was NOT any post about PetSmart. “Running” threads that already cover a store’s offers should be added to, not reposted, as you rightfully point out. The post I was referring to was a “one-off” offer from some company I’d never heard of on something you would not typically be searching for here and that had been posted some 8 months ago and then someone else (I assume) stumbled across the offer and posted it recently, and the original poster of the 8-months-old post called the new post a “repost”. But nothing to do with the posts that are about a popular store and that are updated regularly as new info becomes available. Hope this clears up the misunderstanding.

RE: Lowes YMMV forum for in-store deals
Unfortunately the reviews on the clips for the sink are really bad. The sink itself seems to be OK, but the clips break easily during installation or shortly after from the weight of the sink, and Lowe’s says it has no replacement clips available.

RE: Free Petsmart July Events
A few days ago someone posted about an offer, and someone else was not happy that it was a “repost”, and then I looked up the original post…and it was made 8 MONTHS AGO!!! C’mon, really. I never saw the original post until the unhappy person posted that he/she had already posted it, and certainly newer members would not have seen it, and you’d have to know exactly what to search for in order to find the original post. Seriously, IMHO, finding an offer 8 months after it was originally posted by someone else shouldn’t qualify as a “repost”. A polite “Yes, I discovered that 8 months ago, and here’s a link to the thread I posted at that time for those who’d like to read it” should be sufficient. Again, IMHO.

RE: Staples YMMV forum for In-Store deals
My Staples had 35 of the Life Story ones (20 black, 15 white) up on the highest shelf on the storage bin racks, but thanks to the photos here, I knew what to look for and found them anyway. Bought all of them, sold 30 for $3 each, and gave 5 to a good friend since we’re OK on sturdy bins we’ve bought over the last 4 years. The $55 profit from selling them will help a bit in paying for my $3700 dental work this month. Thanks, OP!

RE: Lowes YMMV forum for in-store deals
The hammer arrived a few minutes ago, itsFriday, and we’re delighted with it. Amazon has the same hammer for $26.85, marked down from $34.66, while I paid just .94 plus tax. Will be an excellent framing hammer, and the lighter weight (17 oz instead of the standard 22 oz) means it will be easier for me to use. Thanks!

RE: Tekton 2-Tool Sample Kit $2 A/C + FS @ Tekton
One sample kit was still available. We need to replace some of our older tools, and these look like they’re a reasonable price for better quality. Anyone here have any Tekton tools? If so, what is your experience with them?

RE: ARTICLE: We shopped at a Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid to see which was the best drugstore, and there was a clear winner
The article was based on shopping in one town and at just one store from each chain, clearly not enough of a sample to make any judgment other than which of the 3 stores is better that the other two in that town. For example, here we had 5, now 4 since RiteAid closed it’s doors last Thursday. And there are a couple independent drug stores as well. First, RiteAid was in a small store in a strip mall that is at least 60 years old, no room for expansion although it’s been upgraded several times as much as could be done with the comparatively small space and outdated building. However, the clerks, managers and pharmacy people were always friendly, helpful and caring. The store was always well stocked, neat and clean. Moving on to CVS, one store is on a corner in the heart of town, probably 30 to 40 year old individual building, no expansion ability, could use updating but doesn’t have much potential for growth. It is neat, clean, adequate but limited space for stock, and has friendly, helpful, caring people. The other CVS is around 7 or 8 years old, much larger, carries a lot more than the other location, is modern, uncluttered, nice people. The Walgreens across from the downtown CVS is about 8 to 10 years old, decent amount of space, adequate stock, neat, clean, well lighted, friendly people. The other Walgreens is very new, about 2 years old, big store, bright lighting, wider variety of stock, neat, clean, helpful friendly people. Sooooo where did we choose to shop? RiteAid for the pharmacy because it’ was convenient and very warm-friendly long-term people who knew us and we knew them. CVS for the deals. Walgreens once in a while if there was a hot deal. That article didn’t take into account the “human” factor. LOL

RE: Free Blackrock Beer Glass (Facebook)
I don’t know why you would get voted red. Personally I found the OP’s post to be helpful, and I definitely appreciated the additional information you added. I have occasionally done a “whois” search for a suspicious domain registration and find the address connected with it but would not have thought of using Google Street View or Zillow to further ID the location. I learned a new skill.

RE: Free 4LB NUTRO Ultra Grain-free Dog Food Print Coupon - Petco Stores Pals Memebrship Required (Free) also use at Petsmart as competitor Q
I had read there were differences between commercial dog and cat food, that one had nutritional components that the other did not need or that would not be good for the other, but I didn’t know what it was. Thanks for the information. We have (rarely) fed our dogs cat food on a day we run out of dog food and don’t feel like going to the store until the next day, but our cat walks by the dog food bowls dozens of times a day and insists she gets cat food or else. LOL

RE: Free 4LB NUTRO Ultra Grain-free Dog Food Print Coupon - Petco Stores Pals Memebrship Required (Free) also use at Petsmart as competitor Q
I picked up a bag of the lamb ingredient version, normal cost $22 and change at my Petco…and darned if two of my dogs (“Heinz 57” 6-1/2 lb mixed breed and 9 lb wirehaired dachshund) turned their noses up at it. We do feed them a good quality dog food from our local pet store, not grocery store stuff, so I was surprised it took all day for them to decide this was edible after all. Our 3rd dog, a 19 lb fox terrier, likes it. Our neighbor got the beef ingredient version, which her dog likes, so I traded her some lamb for some beef, and the two of my dogs who turned their noses up at the lamb also turned their noses up at the beef at first. Once I mixed the Nutro with the food they normally eat ($60 for a 30 lb bag, so it’s pretty good food), they ate both without hesitation.

RE: Coleman FlipLid Personal Cooler - 5 Quarts - RED - $8 @ Amazon or Walmart
Ordered two from Amazon - only the red ones are $8, as you mentioned. They are small, holds 6 soda or beer cans with a bit of ice. Apparently they’re also useful as a lunch pail or as an ice bucket or even put one in the freezer to make a solid block of ice, according to the reviews on Amazon

RE: Lowes YMMV forum for in-store deals
I did not know they use a store nearby you to fulfill the order. My order says it will be sent free by parcel post. Waiting to see what happens. Got the “your order is being processed” email, no cancellation yet. Got my fingers crossed as I’m planning to repaint a couple of rooms and need brushes.
-
RE: Lowes YMMV forum for in-store deals
Wow, thanks, OP! Supposedly there are 10 still in stock, so I ordered 6 of them. Just hope I don’t get that dreaded “we just discovered we don’t have them in stock after all” phone call or email.

RE: Buying my grandparents house - need mortgate advice
First, the lady was right in advising you to get an estimate. In fact, I would advise that you get at least two estimates. If it were me, I’d get 3 estimates. Ask each contractor what they would charge if you decided on changes. Do you have a firm remodeling plan sketched out on paper? What would need to be removed? What needs to be moved to a different location? Are you adding or removing windows or a door? Are you making the kitchen larger? Where the support beams are located makes a huge difference in cost when you are moving all or part of a wall. Will you be moving plumbing? Where do you want the electrical connections? What type of lighting? What materials do you want for the sink and the countertops? Do you want an island? Will the flooring need to be replaced? All of that and more will help the contractor give you a knowledgable and fair estimate. If you just figure you’ll spend up to X and stop, you’ll have to make your choices based on the available amount.
Now, as to the lady’s proposal that you apply for more money than you need…I’d find another lender very quickly. It’s wrong, to begin with, and whatever lender you use will base the amount they lend you on the appraised value of the property. The lender will run through your ability to pay, then have a qualified appraiser give them a current market valuation for the property. That is what the lender will go by, and only a dishonest appraiser will add another $25,000 to the appraisal so you can get more than the property is worth, give the extra along with the purchase price to your grandparents, and then have your grandparents kick back the extra to you.
That said, if your grandparents wish to sell the property to you for X (the purchase price, which should be about the market value or a bit less so it’s not a “sweetheart deal”), and they then decide to gift you with $25,000 because you are their beloved grandchild or they wish to loan you $25,000 at current interest rates or a bit lower because you are their beloved grandchild, that might fly. Depends on whether you have other family members who might get irate that you’re getting $25,000 and they’re not.
The main thing is to be very careful to keep the purchase of the property separate from your grandparents gifting or loaning you the remodel money. The bank is investing in the property, and they expect that their loan will be for less than they could get if they foreclose and sell the property, if necessary.
As far as a remodeling loan, if you are getting a loan for less than the appraised value of the property (i.e., property valued at $200,000, purchase price is $180,00 and loan is for $150,000, somewhere along the line the lender is going to want to know where the other $30,000 of the purchase price is coming from - is it a gift from your grandparents or are they loaning you that money. Or are your grandparents selling you the property for well under market value, and why. The bank will not go along with a property valued at $200,000, purchase price is $225,000, and loan is for $225,000) The bank might easily go along with your grandparents selling you the property for $150,000 although the appraisal is $200,000, and they then loan you an additional $25,000 for remodeling purposes since you would have $50,000 in equity in the property because you paid a lot less than the appraised value.
Talk with an attorney, talk with other lenders. it is entirely possible you could obtain a remodeling loan if you will have some equity in the property after closing, depending on how the initial purchase is structured.
I am not an attorney or a loan officer or involved with any lender. I have worked for title companies as a mobile notary public for some 24 years and have dealt with lenders, title companies and borrowers, talking with loan officers and with borrowers at the table, and I do my best to stay informed about the industry. -
RE: Free Sample Storm Stopper Temporary Window
If I were living in an area where covering our windows and doors when a major storm is coming was common sense, like Florida, Georgia, Texas residents seem to have to do every year, I’d definitely look into this product. One good feature is the light weight of the panels compared to trying to deal with heavy sheets of plywood. Interesting find, Tuskers. Thanks.

RE: Lowes YMMV forum for in-store deals
Price has changed to $9.99 at the Indian Trail store. Glad you were able to get couple before the change, niniss. The Monroe, NC, has it for $2.50, but no free shipping. Maybe try other stores in the area? It’s $14.98 at my store here in TN, supposedly marked down from $17.48 - ridiculous how prices are so different in different areas.

RE: Rain-X Try Me Free Rebate Offer - Walmart - Offer now Limited to 1 Product
The update is appreciated, whoever does it. I plan to purchase tomorrow, so knowing that it has changed to only 1 item allowed is very helpful. Y’know, even on our beloved FatWallet, there were times when a repost of a good offer was helpful to SOME OF US who didn’t dedicate our lives to being on FW 24/7 and might have missed the original post because it dropped off the first couple of pages so quickly.

RE: Swagbucks Tips, Offers & Discussion Thread
Both MyPoints and SB seem to be slow these days at rewarding points for submitted receipts. Points used to be rewarded within a few days to a week, but lately I’ve had to wait as long as 3 weeks. Gerber Puffs, etc., submitted April 28 were finally credited May 18. Pledge submitted April 19 still hasn’t been credited. My receipts are always photographed very clearly, just the required item(s) and maybe one other item on the receipt so it fits fully in the photo with the Walmart name and the date of purchase.

I bought the Gerber products, had the receipt ready to post on April 30…and could not find the offer again. I searched and searched and searched. I know there was an offer the expired April 30, same as the one on MyPoints, but I could not find it again on SB. The only in-store shopping offers I have now are for the Scrubbing Bubbles Gel at Walmart and the Mama’s Biscuits at Sam’s Club.
