SYWR Points Back with Purchase Offers Thread

If you’re still playing this game, today’s a good day to get the $100 pts back on $100 purchase.
Prices dropped overnight and RMN cash back doubled.
I’m getting the Dewalt 20v cordless drill/driver set. RR $159, was $149 yesterday. Today $119
I have $15 FC wyb $100 to use but pretty good deal even without that.
I’m looking at $104 on gc, getting back $100 FC and $10.40 from RMN. Then have 4 wks to put the $100 FC back onto the gc.

  • @my4mainecoons I’d still be playing if there were any Sears (or Kmart) stores left near me, and even the closest ones (50mi+) are slated to close down.

Just a note about this specific drill/driver set, apparently it’s not “battery compatible” with all the previous Craftsman/B&D 20Vmax tools, at least according to some reviews.
And I say that as a big fan of the B&D 20Vmax line, having lots of shop tools as well as outdoor tools that all use the same 20V li-ion batteries. Plus also (with a minor mod) Porter-Cable 20Vmax batteries as well, and vice versa.

My closest non-Hometown Sears store has always been 40 miles away but I make it work.
Sadly its slated to close so I’m cashing out gc.
I have a KM 50 miles south so I don’t need to completely liquidate but don’t need as much gc as I have now.

  • @my4mainecoons Honest question - if you convert GC into points and then points back into GC, how do you cash out the GC? This is the conundrum I constantly have. I’ve already lost my Kmart, and I’m soon losing 3 out of the last 5 Sears within any sort of reasonable driving distance (<60 miles).

@lo I won’t be converting it all back to g.c. Also you lose a little in the conversion back to g.c.

It has been a while since I have played “the game”. Are there any new special restrictions on what you can use the points you get back from doing deals like this? Can the points be used on grocery items? How about clearance items? I remember before you could use SYW points on most antyhing (except gift cards, of course), but I was wondering if that was still the case.

I did the Sears spend $100, get $100 offer. I did it in-store. I was actually able to spend $120 because I had a $20 FREECASH offer when I spent $85 or more. I ended up getting back $112.09 in SYW points because it double-dipped with a $10 in points wyb $40 on apparel offer, so that paid for the sales tax and then some. I bet if I would have waited until Black Friday it would have double-dipped with the get $20 wyb $60 offer. I also used the $10 off $10 text coupon on a separate order.

  • @mrvietnam You can’t use points online on grocery items anymore, but you can use them in-store on grocery items. Clearance is no problem. You can no longer use bonus points (i.e., large amounts of points earned from various promotions, as opposed to the base points earned from 1% of spend) at Hometown and Outlet stores.

Thanks so much. That information was very helpful. Today I plan to go out and get some Disney Cars for my 2 year old that are on clearance at K-mart and use my newly earned points.

I had a hard time redeeming points the last one I did ($100 back in 4 @ $25 installments). Everything I wanted at Sears wasn’t available for pick up nor to be shipped. I had trouble finding anything I wanted at KM too. Ended up with another box of Arm & Hammer Cloud Control which my brother is submitting for TMF MIR and a few other odds & ends but store was half empty – even though its not on a closing list.

  • @briarycliffs What I’ve discovered (at least for me) is that when you pay using SYWR points along with PayPal, you can’t just pay for shipping alone with PayPal.

During checkout, you first see your estimated total, including the sales tax and shipping cost. Then you apply your points, knocking the cost down to no lower than the shipping cost–or possibly a bit more if your points don’t cover the item(s) plus tax.

Unless your “after points applied” total isn’t at least HALF the original estimated total, when you select to CHANGE payment type (from a credit card), the PayPal option will no longer be there. You have to use a credit card. I’m a tad reluctant to do that, at least with any bank card I own!

However, I’ve found that you can use one of those Visa or Mastercard rewards cards, like the ones issued for all those AB beer rebates, to pay for shipping only. And any little bit remaining on that card you can roll into your Amazon gift card account.

Quite a far stretch from the SYWR glory days of yore!

  • I visited my closest remaining Sears today (3/7/20). In the clothing dept, they had signs up for $30 back in points when you spend $30 on Fall and Winter Clearance Apparel & Accessories. Points issued on 4/12/20 and are valid until 5/9/20.

Kmart has the same deal by the way (in-store only as well). Ends 3/14.
