For those of you who have a local Kroger:

IF Target accepts GC’s as payment for the 10% promo GC’s again this year (they did last year), go to Kroger and buy $270 worth of Target GC’s, then go to Target and buy $300 worth of Target GC’s with the GC’s just purchased at Kroger.

The Kroger purchase earns 4x fuel points = 1080 points = $1 off per gallon, max. 35 gal., effectively bringing your spend down to $235 if you use all 35 gal (fill up multiple vehicles in one transaction, if necessary).

Additionally, if you have an AMEX Blue Everyday, you get 6% CB; however, this is not significant if you have a Target REDcard or Discover Card.

  • Pretty sure Target does not allow GCs to purchase GCs. I think using Discover is the best bet.

  • So, for those of us who are interested in more than $300, what are the restrictions? Can you “Target hop” and still purchase more than $300? I’m thinking about maxing my Discover CB. Can I do $270 online and then multiple $300 (get back in line or whatever) at a single Target? Should I send my wife to another Target with her Discover? What has been everyone’s experience in the past?

I think the issue with this deal is whether you can buy any GCs with a Target GC (and specifically, if you can pay for these 10% off Target GCs with a Target GC).

I paid for a Target gift card ONLINE using a Target gift card. This was 2-3 years ago though when Target was running the same deal. I never tried in store. The cashier probably wouldn’t let you try.

  • buying Target gc with a Target gc online used to work. even when not doable in store, but it was not allowed last time I tried, maybe a year ago.

It appears that Target.com will restrict gift card purchase savings to $30 (10% of $300) on Sunday; however, reports from purchasers of discounted GC’s last year seem to indicate that YMMV in-store…

Self-checkout users reported being able to successfully by-pass the $300 restriction, as well as use Target gift cards to pay for Target gift cards (e.g., Kroger-purchased Target GC’s used to purchase Target GC’s at Target, in-store).

They also recommended not waiting until the last minute to purchase GC’s, as selection may be limited.

  • Used target gift cards in store to pay for the discounted target gift cards.

  • You also cannot use the gift card the same day you purchase them. Learned that the hard way today.

That’s the way it has always been every year with this deal.

It says can’t used target GC to buy 3rd party GC on Target.com, what about in store. Has anyone tried it?

  • @ZenNuts asked:

The absence of the specific language “in-store” when restricting the use of Target GC’s as payment tender to purchase 3rd-party GC’s has led curious shoppers to attempt to purchase such in-store; despite numerous reports about how Target has recently changed its policy disallowing 3rd-party GC purchases with Target GC’s as payment tender, there have been a few reports of successful purchases of eBay, Disney, Starbucks, Xbox, Chipotle, Regal, and Lowe’s GC’s within the past few months.

Whether the reason for such low reporting is due to limited success (YMMV) or simply to limited attempts is unknown.

  • Anyone seeing their balance on the app? Mine are still showing up $0.00.

EDIT: Turns out the “add this card to my account” link didn’t automagically add it. When I enter the number/access number everything’s fine.

  • I think Target is running behind: my e-GC’s arrived at 12:08 p.m. CT, despite being scheduled to be active two hours earlier, at 10:00 a.m. CT…

ETA: 1:42 p.m. CT: just received confirmation that my e-GC’s have been “shipped”.
