Fetch Rewards point devaluation AGAIN 11/2023.

  • Looks like Fetch Rewards had an across the board point devaluation.

Most $5 gift cards (good ones like Amazon) are now 6,500 points. $10 Amazon is now 12,500 points. $25 Amazon is 28,000 points. It’s close to that for Apple, Target, etc.

There are a few that are below the previous redemption value like clothing stores and some restaurants.

  • 500 Club

Bummer! I got a $25 Amazon card last month and have been saving for another one. 😞

  • They introduced a daily spin that might make it easier to earn points faster. I think it resets every 24 hours and I’m going to test if I can use a receipt dated the day before to qualify for tomorrow’s daily spin.

I think its a way to reward frequent uploaders and give more than 2.5 cents per receipt. I won 250 points on my first spin.

  • Global Moderator

@ctujackbauer they should have at least given notice so people could use their points prior to the change. I’m not impressed when you are cheated on the value of your earnings. Puts a bad taste in my mouth.

That’s a BIG increase on the AMZ redemptions. basically devalues the points already earned by 13-25% depending on scenario. what a load of crap.

  • 500 Club

Agreed. I could have gotten a $10 and a $5 Amazon certificate with the over 18K points I have saved up. No warning is not the way to treat users.

Found it. I scanned a receipt I already scanned in today and was still able to do a spin. Only 50 points win, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Hopefully I can just scan in any receipt, even one I’ve already scanned in, and be able to spin since I don’t go shopping every day to be able to have a new unsubmitted receipt every day.

Daily spin? Didn’t see taht. I just used 3 receipts, so I’ll have to look for the daily spin offer. Where would I find it?

Mine just started up once I redeemed an offer (a Von’s offer for 750 points for one shopping trip, I didn’t hit any other product offers) Mine has a counter on the top of the app showing how long until the next daily spin.

Also, when did you last update your Fetch Rewards app? I usually update my apps.

I urge everyone to go into their ‘help’ section on the app, send a ticket using ‘rewards’ as the topic category. I blasted them. I have a lot of points banked and in my case a GC I redeem for often (BURGER KING) went up by 15%, causing me to lose at the minimum about 25K points in value on my total. Never again will I save up that many points on this POS app. Disgusting treatment of users.

For Burger King it might be smart to wait out a couple of months to see if it goes on sale. Some of the other restaurants have an even cheaper valuation than the previous 5,000 for $5

Still annoying, I typically redeem for 1 or 2 $10 GC’s per month at BK. I don’t like to get large $$ amount GC’s in case something changes in how often I go there. Waiting for a sale (assuming there is one) doesn’t remedy my concerns here. The points earned for most establishment GC’s up til now translated to 10000 points = $10, now I need 11500 for a $10 BK card? Burger King mind you. this isn’t even an Amazon or Visa prepaid which I can understand the premium on to some degree.

Speaking of which, a $50 Visa Card that used to be 52.500?? is now 63000. That’s just crazy.

  • I cleared my Fetch balance last week.
    Ms SOZ has 18000.
She won 600 from the new game today.
She’ll play 3 mores days and clear her balance. (probably 2x Kroger GC)

even the Kroger went up in points needed to redeem. very few went down, and most that did aren’t anything to get excited about IMO.

  • @mistercheap We can leverage the Kroger GC with booze rebates.

He pays for various beer, wine, liquor that has rebates or NBPR rebates with the gift cards and gets money back on them that way. beermoney.pro is a good place to find these rebates by state.

@sonofzeus no Kroger in these parts so not an option for me.

  • Sucks but I only really scan when they give bonuses for scanning a receipt. So I only have 1800 pts. Thanks for pointing out there is a daily spin game-didn’t know that. Only won 50pts on my first spin but I guess I’ll add this app to my daily receipt scanning to see if I can win more.

  • Global Moderator

Good thing, in the past at least, I always cashed out when I met the earliest threshold. Now it looks like if I redeem for a $25 Kroger card I get the least devaluation of points, “only” a 9.1% devaluation vs. a 23.1% devaluation for a $5 card or a 16.7% devaluation on a $10 card,

  • 500 Club

I was saving toward Amazon cards. Didn’t notice they have Kroger cards too, and if they’re a better value pointwise, I might get those instead. Generally I get Amazon or Lowe’s cards from SB or MyPoints and Walmart cards from Microsoft Rewards. Those are the ones that are most useful for us.

  • Heads up: you can play the daily spin with a receipt from prior days.

250 points yesterday, only 10 points today.

  • 500 Club

How are you doing that? I go to the spin and win, click on it, then have to scan a receipt, it rejects a receipt I’ve already submitted, and when I go out of it, the app does not take me to the spin and win so I can spin. What am I doing wrong?

  • @dionaea said in Fetch Rewards point devaluation.:

You have to scan a new receipt, one that you haven’t scanned before. After your 24 hours has counted down (the top of the app has the countdown timer) you click on that.

As long as it is a new receipt that you haven’t scanned before, you can use a receipt from a prior day - I used a restaurant receipt dated yesterday that I didn’t scan yet.

  • 500 Club

Got it, thanks. I’m going to join Ibotta too since Fetch has made this change. Just have to find someone who already uses it so they can get the referral bonus.

If only there were people in here like that 😉

  • we can’t scan a bunch of receipts all at once and get 1 spin for each. It’s 1 spin per 24 hrs no matter how many new receipt which means we have to scan only 1 per day to maximize points… what a pain.

  • 500 Club

Just discovered this morning that it’s a 24-hour timer from the last time you spun. That of course is BS, and I will be sending another complaint email.

Best advice is, if you only have one recent receipt to scan, just hold on to it until the timer resets. Yes, it is a PITA, should just be on calendar day reset. No reason to make it so difficult, still say their point redemption nonsense is about one of the worst ‘stunts’ of the year.

It also makes me less inclined to do their 100% back in points offers on items I don’t really need (like the Vienetta), why bother? if I earn 7000 points on one the points are worth 10-20% less than they were before resulting in it costing me money to get a ‘free’ item. OK for stuff I really want and use but not just for the hell of it.

  • Global Moderator

True because a 100% back offer will no longer be truly 100% back when it is time to convert points to s gift card.

  • 500 Club

Well, I got Ibotta set up and am working on figuring it out. Scanned and submitted a receipt for a couple items I purchased a few days ago that were on their points-for-purchase list, and it worked! I don’t want to link any of my store accounts to ibotta, so I’ll just keep doing the scan and submit thing even though it’s not nearly as user friendly as Fetch. While Fetch gives you 25 points for each receipt, even if you haven’t purchased anything on their points-for-purchase offers, Ibotta does not do that, right? Ibotta only gives points if you purchase something in the points-for-purchase offers? Still have to figure out how to put the Ibotta icon on my android smartphone so I can put it next to the Fetch icon. I saw CVS and a couple other drugstores, but what about grocery stores like Kroger and Publix and Walmart?

You have to match an offer to get any money back. There are “any item” offers and “any brand” offers (like any brand baby food) as well. But there are many shopping trips I make that doesn’t match any item so I don’t scan the receipt in Ibotta.

They are in there. You can search for stores in the search box.

  • What do you think about complaining to PepsiCo and Unilever? I bought stuff with the expectation of a certain dollar amount and then they devalue it without notice.

  • Global Moderator

Leaving negatve reviews here will hurt them. As I said in a previous post, one thing to change the program/rewards, another do it with absolutely no notice on already earned points. A two week window would have been plenty to make it easy for people to redeem points are current levels, knowing redemptions for many Gift Cards would cost more at a future date.

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Let’s screw over our customer base by doing it this way.

  • So I’ve been doing the Daily spin for the past week just to see what it pays out. 50, 100, 250, 25, 15, 10, and 5 today. I see a trend and think it might be pre-determined. I’ll report back what I get tomorrow and might re-evaluate whether it’s worth it to do this daily.

They have devalued the spin points too! Way to go Fetch. I got 5 today also, so that bolsters your predetermined theory.

  • 500 Club

And I received 5 points for the Daily Spin this morning too. Don’t know if they decide on everyone getting a specific number of points no matter what time you spin, or if it will vary throughout the day, or if it’s truly random. Maybe everyone who spins on Monday gets 5 points, on Tuesday gets 25 points, on Wednesday gets 10 points, etc. I’ll keep track of what I get each day from the Spin so we can compare notes. I am now dividing purchases so the cashier rings up 2 or 3 groups of items and I get 2 or 3 reciepts instead of just one. Trying to have a receipt to scan in every day possible so I can do a Daily Spin.

I always keep my eye out for abandoned receipts in grocery store parking lots as I am entering or exiting the grocery store. Sometimes I am even able to score some rebates on Ibotta using found receipts, too.

Be careful with that - most people pay by credit card and use loyalty cards, enough unknown credit cards and loyalty cards might send a red flag. With these apps, there’s no warning: they ban you from the platform forever and take away prior earnings.

Honestly, most of my receipts give 25 points anyway, worth 2.5 cents in value (actually less now since they raised the price of most GC’s) Let’s say you split a 20 item order into 4 transactions, you get 8-9c in GC value from that. I’m not sure its worth my time, easier to just pick few on the ground or laying around by the self c/o garbage can as you walk in or walk out of the store. Really turned off with FETCH these days, the bonus spin thing is a joke (5 points??) at the very least each should be 25, the equivilent of a receipt scan.

As least with Ibotta it is straight cash value and the any item or any receipt offers, worth 10-25c typically are much more valuable than 5 points on a bonus spin on FETCH. Plus I can cash out for money when I’ve hit $20, not for overpriced gift cards.

  • Global Moderator

    Boy, this made me laugh.

After leaving a snarky comment on the FETCH page about the poinst devaluation, I got this!

mistercheap, I haven’t seen aywhere to enter any item or any receipt, but I’m just a week or so into learning to use Ibotta. Where do I go on the app to submit receipts that don’t have any qualifying purchases? Baby steps, please. 🙂

  • @dionaea
The general “Any Receipt” offer is not always available, and when it is, it’s usually available only once a week in any store (that I’ve tried).

When you’re viewing a store and adding offers, there is an “Any item” category. “Any receipt” would be there if it’s available, along with other, more specific “any item of this type” offers.

Correct, it comes and goes and can be ‘any item’ or more specific, like ‘any soda’ "any seedless grapes’ etc. In addition to the any offers aspect of IBOTTA, there are also bonuses for redeeming so many offers over a weekend or mid week for instance. Earn an extra $3 when you redeem 9 offers for example, and I’ve hit these a number of times, but not always. They are above and beyond all your earnings.

Finally, many offers are limit 5 per receipt which can be a nice windfall at $2 per item. If you bought 5 of said item on sale and used coupons on the items too, the IB rebate can bring it down to free or even a MM sometimes. The limit 5 rebates per receipt help you get to $20 to cash out pretty quickly and often reset as well after a day or two of submitting your first batch. You can repeat the offer on the item(s).

  • I guess the point devaluation hasn’t really bothered me too much since there are still a fair number of other redemption options at a discounted level. As far as the daily spin bonus goes, eh, I guess it’s free. The most I’ve gotten so far is 25, usually 5 or 10. What I do wish is that it would reset on a daily basis, not a literal 24 hours.
