I understand from your posts on FWF there are software/admin issues between the platforms. I hope that over time we all end up congregating in one place – right now I’m checking FWF, PhatWallet, and Fragiledeal. (I don’t see SD or Reddit as reasonable alternatives.) Strength in numbers!

I’m not sure what FWF is, but as far as Fragiledeal goes, they have picked an inferior platform. Although I’m a little jealous that it has the wiki functionality built in (which we need for quick summary), knowing Jeff it’s built in exactly the wrong way with no hope of changing it. I believe Jeff doesn’t believe in pagination either, a feature that we have (though he may have changed his mind in the last couple of years, but I doubt it).
Another big issue for the other platform was lack of scalability. It was always having weird, unexplained performance issues and crashes. When told that it doesn’t support large threads well, Jeff’s response was - “Don’t create large threads”.
The nodeBB dev team is much easier to deal with (as we shall soon see for ourselves, since it looks like we found a pagination bug).

Hey guys. I’m a very infrequent FWF poster but avid almost-daily reader, member since 12/16/2003. Thanks for setting this up in such a short amount of time.
What kind of communication is happening behind the scenes regarding Fragiledeals? So far this appears to be the better name and platform for us, but there’s clearly tons of ongoing effort over there to build it up. I would hate for both to fizzle away from divided membership.

New here, not a huge FW user but always went there for finance advice. I’m addicted to SD though. lol
Anyway, I didn’t get the story on why FW is shutting down. I know it was sold to Ratuken but not why it’s shutting it down.

@dangeruss tested again in IE11 and FireFox 55.0.3. Behavior is as I initially described it. It also shows me 20 posts per page (actually maybe only 19 posts). For example, page #8 of this thread starts w/ post #142 and ends w/ post 160. There’s already a page #9 which has post #161 (this reply may be post #162).

The success (or failure) of this site will depend largely on us, the community, if we will support it with productive discussions. I believe that the strength of any forum depends on the members. With this said, let’s not rely on others but let it begin with us : )

Greetings friends and thank you for doing this. I’ve been a member of FW since 2008. I never posted as much as I would have liked to as I just don’t have that much time but it served me and my family well for years. I still can’t believe it’s going down but I’m glad some of you are banding together here. I hope this all works out well. Cheers.

I think it was bought to kill, someone had said “industry consolidation” Same thing other industry go through, minimizing competition.

From what we understand Rakuten decided to pull the plug. It must not have been very profitable.It was a duplicate venture for them. They had their online discount site, and bought FW with EB, which was the real target for CB, so FW was discarded. If EB had not bought FW, FW would not be disappearing. Mergers & acquisitions can create problems. I expected FW not to last this long, after the EB purchase, thinking they bought a competitor, would absorb their customers and best features and discard the rest. RAT is escalating that process, and is well known for doing that to their competition.

I have no inside knowledge, but suspect the lack of information coming out about the shutdown would indicate that the mods/staff at FW have their hands somewhat tied right now - they probably can’t say or do much until the dust settles. I have to believe they are all as upset about this as we are, and their futures just became rather uncertain.
