Top Cashback: Poorest tracking of orders and repeated customer service denials of claims

  • Global Moderator

Have to say, I’ve about had it with TCB. Even if they are paying the highest, what good is it if you are constantly not getting the cashback due you? And even worse, when you submit perfectly documented claims of your order, you get the BS excuse you went through a different channel/claim denied answer.

You can see my terse reply to them today. I know the big Black Friday order I did for RA was done properly because there was that $3.50 bonus on $10 (or $3 I forget which) that I was doing this order on to get in addition to the 6% CB at the time. I’ve had this issue before with Office Depot orders too never tracking. Time to cut my losses with them and just use another CB site. Not sure what’s worse, the CB not getting reported or the joke customer service claims they ‘submit’ that rarely, if ever, result in any CB showing up in the accounts.

This is simply not true and without question, Top Cashback is the only CB site that I have these repeated issues with. Stuff doesn’t report properly, well documented submissions for tickets followed by lame reasons and excuses for not paying out what is due. I just had to open a 2nd ticket for my Rite Aid order on 11/28 that hasn’t tracked and I’m sure it will be met with this same excuse.

Despite being a loyal user of your site since it first entered the US years back, I’ve lost out on too much cashback and corresponding bonuses to continue with you any longer. Ebates, Be Frugal, Retail Me Not and other CB sites where things didn’t track properly have always stood behind my inquiries and paid out what was due me. I am extremely disappointed and frankly, quite tired of not getting the cash back due me from TCB. You simply pass the buck as your replies. There is absolutely NO WAY I went through any other channel for this order as I was doing it to get the $3.50 black friday bonus that I activated when the order was originally placed. I am 100% positive I followed the procedures correctly. Doesn’t matter I guess.

    Hi there,

Having chased the status of your claim with the merchant network it unfortunately appears your claim has returned declined. The reason given to us for the decline is “another marketing channel.”

The most common reasons behind this declined resolution is either that TopCashback was not the last referred click when making a transaction, or that a coupon/promotional code was used that was not listed on our site.

If you would like further information please do get back to us on this claims thread.

We are very sorry about this unfortunate outcome, we do appreciate that this can be very disappointing.

    Best wishes,

    Hi there,

Your Missing CashBack claim has now been submitted to Rite Aid (via their affiliate network or representative management agency who run their online programme for them).

I don’t know why you’re having a bad run. I had a bad run with TCB early on and didn’t use them for years because of it. Recently I’ve had better luck including getting cash back on things that I just realized were denied in 2020. Give up on them. I prefer RMN if the % back is the same.

  • TCB has been dead to me for 2 years.
    Found bliss elsewhere.

After they denied a legitimate dispute of missing CB, I now only use TCB if they personally offer a cash back bonus on top of the regular CB. They’ve been paying me to shop through them. I don’t like people messing with my money and breaking their word.

I hear you, MC, and couldn’t agree more. TCB sucks. Many of my TCB orders don’t track either. I rarely use them anymore and now I give most of my business to Retail Me Nit. They have excellent customer service and have paid me cashback even when my orders didn’t automatically track. Plus RMN pays a higher percent cashback than most sites.

Don’t know why people have so much problem with tracking. I have redeemed almost $300 in the last 2 years, and about $600 lifetime. I always start with a fresh browser session in private mode.

Please try this TCB (UK) huge money making offer and report your success/failure at harvest time. (90? 120 days?) https://www.topcashback.co.uk/bonus-kings/

You can also play their “find the bird game”.

  • I’ve historically had pretty good results using TCB over the years, but my last two did not track and I am awaiting follow-up after submitting claims. Transactions were at Home Depot and Hulu, FWIW.

I had good luck with TCB for years until 2021. I’ve had the “did not track” issues with one being refused by telling me the retailer told them I linked in from somewhere else. It was such a small amount that I didn’t protest it. I hadn’t opened any other CB sites before making my purchase though.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this had something to do with ABP or similar. I know some of the bigger players like Rakuten have you whitelist them in ABP before they will let you click through to the site, but I am betting TCB doesn’t and the tracking cookies get lost.

For me, the most common problem is not the transactions themselves, but the bonus cashbacks associated with them, typically on the last day of each bonus event. Those are easily corrected with support tickets.

  • Global Moderator

I’ve had them deny ,my bonus cash back for no reason (activated on time, purchased before deadline, bought qualifying item that earned CB, added item within their linked tab, etc.). That’s why I barely use them now… if they’re willing to cheat me I’ll take my business elsewhere.

  • @dangeruss I always keep my adblocker turned off on the CB sites and whatever site I’m purchasing from which usually results in no issues with whichever one I use.

Yesterday I went through Rakuten for one eBay order, and TCB for another eBay order a few minutes later. Both orders were credited to TCB. I started with a fresh incognito browser session for each order.

A few weeks ago I switched between MaxRebates and Rakuten for Steelcase. The order was placed through MaxRebates, but the credit went to Rakuten.

The shopping portal tracking may not work the way we expect it to work.

In November I looked back at bonus tracking 2020-2021. 3 times I had placed an order, cancelled and then re-ordered while the bonus was still active. The bonus was denied on the cancelled order as expected but I did not receive a bonus for the re-orders for which I had received the % back. I contacted CS and they issued the bonuses going back to a transaction in May 2020.

Lately I’ve only bought from Giftcards.com for bonuses and they have all tracked.
@MISTERCHEAP did it credit properly and did you get the bonus when you bought the Kohl’s gc last month?

yes, they did, and that’s what I bought this bonus too. Just sticking to very safe transactions with them. Getting a $10 GC for $7.30 net a/CB is worth my time. Staying away from Office Depot, CVS/RA on TCB. Had problems with all not reporting properly. Lost out on $5+ CB on a recent RA BF order with the bonus lost. They claimed ‘different channel’ which was total BS. really pissed me off to be honest. Rather earn $3 elsewhere and get it than get jerked around and denied my earnings despite clear proof and back up the order was placed. As I mentioned in my DD post, TCB is the only CB site that as a rule doesn’t not stand behind their customers. Always passing the buck on the merchant or whatever to deny.

  • I’m having problems with tcb as well. Right now have 3 open claims. All with officedepot purchases. Most involves the extra cash back tcb offered but i never received. I think i need to stop using them going forward. Sick of having to track them down and follow up again and again. Wasted so much time and energy.

  • My response to TCB after getting the same denial response after a claim:
What good does it do to use Chrome, with the TCB extension installed, and have it showing as activated at the time of purchase, if that can’t be considered as reliable? It’s ridiculous. My click-to-merchant history timestamp and actual purchase time are within minutes of each other. There simply is no sensible explanation why anything should have gone wrong except to say the TCB has shortcomings in their system and processing to reliably track transactions. I just do not have these problems with other cash-back sites. I have been using cash-back sites for years—I understand how this works. If something goes wrong, I’m at the mercy of the cash-back site to follow through or not. And I again say, since there is not credit showing for me for this purchase from another cash-back site, something doesn’t add up.

I’m sure I’ll just get another sorry-sounding reply back, but I’m getting my two bits in. I’m pretty sure I’m going to be done with them after many years of satisfaction. And I will follow through and actively bad mouth them going forward.

  • @yoregano Ask your father/brother/uncle attorney about the risk of bad mouthing going forward.

These issues have made me really frustrated and sad as I said in a previous post after not having trouble with them for years. I had seen others complaining about TCB during that time and just thought “Oh it must be user error…”. Now I’m feeling bad for writing all of those complaints off for that reason when some of them could have been going through what some of us are now.

Nothing wrong with fact based feedback, and if that feedback is not complimentary, so be it. Obviously with as many people sharing similar tales in this thread, the problem is not isolated and the same lame excuses are given over and over again. Even with the extension, as @yoregano points out, he didn’t get his CB and if enough people leave negative reviews of TCB online (again fact based, not indiscriminate rants), it will start to bite them in the ass sooner or later.

    What he said.

Since TCB says that it’s up to the merchant to report tracking, I might see how much effort I want to put into this and press the merchant (Home Depot in this case) to tell me what exactly the “other marketing channel” is in my situation. If I get that info, I will then see who really owes me cash back for this transaction. 🤔

Woke up to this for an OD claim. “chased the status”, they’ve yet to catch one for cashback. absolute joke.

I’m not so sure. I see more websites these days using cookies that stick even after cache/cookie clearing. There are even OTP suppression session cookies that let sites not prompt me for my TOTP 2FA app codes.

I now resort to using Microsoft Edge (ick!) and cache clearing Edge before any cashback shopping; Chrome is busted because of all of the cookie saving.

  • To my great surprise, I just had a claim ticket resolved and the cash back was approved! In this case, it was for Hulu back during the Black Friday timeframe. One curious thing was it took TCB forever to submit the claim after I had created the ticket. Anyway, I’m still miffed overall, though. This cash back amount was $2; I’m still out the $7+ on my earlier mentioned Home Depot transaction which included a $5 bonus at the time of purchase. And getting this Hulu transaction approved does not make me feel more comfortable in using TCB going forward. Both the Hulu and HD purchases were made on the same computer, using the same browser (Chrome), within a similar timeframe, etc. It just does not make sense why one worked and the other didn’t.
