THANK YOU!!!
Back when we got SYWR for buying Belkin I accumulated a lot of cables. I have a box of VGA/SVGA that I hadn’t gotten around to recycling. Can we do this on accounts regardless of spend/status? The large container of Clorox wipes has been $5 recently. I have an easier time spending $5 than $40 😊Oh wait, I should probably unload the CRT monitor first.

While the page also says “Exclusions apply”, I did not see them listed. It might have been referring to the ink/toner recycling.

Ms SOZ and I will be recycling for rewards every month until they kill this promo.

Staples Recycling Program (“Program”)
Terms and Conditions (“Terms”)
In an effort to reduce waste going to landfills, Staples has created the Staples Recycling Program which offers Customers the option of bringing in select items to Staples U.S. stores, where it’s EASY and REWARDING to recycle. These Terms are an agreement between you (“Customer” or “you”) and Staples (“Staples”), and they govern your use of and participation in the Staples Recycling Program.
This Program is available to all Staples customers that bring in Select Recyclable Items. Customers who are 18 years of age or older with a valid U.S. mailing address and a valid email address may enroll in the Staples Rewards® Program to receive recycling rewards for certain Select Recyclable Items that they recycle with Staples. The Program applies to Staples U.S. stores only.
- Select Recyclable Items
The items that may be recycled at a Staples U.S. store (“Select Recyclable Items”) include print cartridges, a variety of electronics, SodaStream® CO2 containers, select rechargeable batteries, select kitchen appliances and paper. The list may change from time to time, and the complete list of Select Recyclable Items at any given time will be available on the Staples website at: https://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/sustainability-center/recycling-services/. Some locations may offer additional recycling services. Items that are determined by Staples, in its sole discretion, to pose a health or safety risk will not be accepted. Staples does not accept products that are subject to a Consumer Product Safety Commission recall.
The Select Recyclable Items may be recycled free of any charge to the Customer. Customer may recycle up to seven (7) items per day. Certain Select Recyclable Items are or may become eligible for Staples Rewards. For more information on and terms related to Staples Rewards, please visit https://www.staples.com/grs/rewards/programoverview.
- Electronics Recycling
Select Recyclable Items include a variety of electronic devices. Customers that recycle eligible electronic devices at Staples relinquish all ownership rights in the devices when they give them to Staples to be recycled. Additionally, Staples is not responsible for any data left on devices turned in for recycling. The Customer is solely responsible for removing data from their devices, and the Customer acknowledges that submission of a device for recycling is at the Customer’s sole risk. Customer further represents that Customer either: (1) is the sole owner of the electronic device and of any data that was on the electronic device before Customer deleted all such data prior to recycling; or (2) has permission to proceed with recycling from all other owners of the electronic device or of any data that was on the electronic device before Customer deleted all such data prior to recycling.
- Self-Service, In-Store Recycling
Some Staples stores offer self-service recycling kiosks which permit Customers to complete their recycling without the assistance of an associate. Customers are responsible for following the steps to ensure that any coupons or Staples Rewards that would be awarded are attributed to them or to their Staples Rewards account. Customers assume the risks when it comes to participating in the self-serve process in those stores.
- California Residents
In order to comply with the conditions of The State of California’s Electronic Waste Recycling Payment program, Customers in California will be asked to provide additional information to allow Staples to submit the information required for the recycling payment. The provision of this information is optional, and Customer’s refusal to provide such information will not preclude them from participating in this Program or in the Staples Rewards Program.
- General
For information on how we protect your personal information, see Staples’ U.S. Privacy Policy on staples.com. Staples is not liable for unclaimed, expired, lost or misdirected statements or other communications from Staples to the Customer or the Customer to Staples.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any Customer’s legal action against Staples relating to the Program may only be filed in the state and federal courts of Suffolk County, Massachusetts. If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable to any extent, then the invalid portion shall be deemed conformed to the minimum requirements of law to the extent possible. In addition, all other provisions of these Terms shall not be affected and shall continue to be valid and enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by law.
The Program is void where prohibited by law. Staples reserves the right to modify, revise or cancel this Program, the Terms or any part of the Program at any time for all participants or for any specific participant without prior notice. Staples’ decision on whether a particular item can be accepted for recycling or is eligible for Staples Rewards shall be final.
By participating in the Program, Customers agree to and are subject to these Terms.
Environmental Impact

Actual impact benefits will vary based on a variety of factors.

What??? Is the ability to recycle up to 20 ink cartridges each month for $2 credit per cartridge going away??? I really depend on that $40 in store credit each month.

The ad specifically references the $2.00 ink/toner recycling.

It says they take Alkaline batteries. Does that mean I could bring in a single AA or AAA each week and get $5? I have about 20 packages sitting in my garage I got FAR at Office Depot,

I only see ‘rechargable batts’ not alkalines. Can you tell me where you see alkalines?

@mrvietnam Each month.

You are right. My mistake. Alkaline batteries are on the cannot be recycled in store list. It is only the rechargeable batteries that they will take.
I also have several rechargeable AA and AAA batteries. They don’t say how many rechargeable batteries you must recycle to get the monthly $5. I wonder if I could bring in just one at a time? I think I will give it a try and if they balk, I can show them the list. It’s worth a try.
Do you have to have the required spend to recycle ink to recycle tech? I don’t recycle ink there. If I need the required ink spend then that is certainly a deal breaker for me.
-
@mrvietnam You’ll have to find out and report back as most of us recycle ink.

I think 1st pound of shredding is free… maybe some stores only?. is that eligible too?

so I can just bring in 1 sheet of used paper to shred and get credit in lieu of the one rechargeable battery?

I recycled a 25 year old scanner today. That part was smooth. Receipt printed a $10 off $30 good today only. Also recycled 10 inks on separate receipt and got another coupon. Redeeming the coupon and rewards was a nightmare though. I bought 3 items that should have totalled $31 plus tax. 2 rang up the wrong price and they couldn’t understand why I was not ok paying over $10 for an order that should have been $2. Saved the second coupon and rewards for the store that is across town.
-
I turned in 20 cartridges today and also turned in a laptop charger that was for an older-than-dirt laptop that was tossed years ago. The $10 off $30 coupon at the bottom of the receipt was for today only, and I had no use for it. Am I correct in assuming those are tied to your account and can’t be passed on for anyone else to use?

No, they can be used on any account but it is a one time use coupon most likely (16 digit code) if 5 digit, not a unique code.
-
The printed expiration date may not be the actual expiration date in the system. Typically all coupons with the same 5-digit prefix expire at the same time. Someone will have to try an “expired” coupon to see if still works.
-
Those who brought in stuff to recycle, did you guys get the $5 rewards … and does it print out as a coupon in the receipt? Thanks.

Expect it to be in your rewards account next month.
-
A couple of people on SD reported that simply recycling the ink/toner cartridges qualified for the additional $5 reward.
-
Just checked my Staples account, and I have the $40 for recycling 20 cartridges last month and also $5 and $5 for turning in an old laptop charger last month and an old flip phone early this month. Looking forward to using it and November’s rewards to help with the cost of a new router that is 5G capable. Hopefully there will be a deal on at least one for Black Friday from NetGear or a high-quality supplier. I’m looking in the price range of $150 to $200, if possible. The current cost of good routers is mindboggling.
-
I received email that I had $45 in Rewards. Didn’t know what the extra $5 was until I saw this thread again. I hope they keep this going. I recently realized how much old tech I have that needs to go away.
-
I received $40 for ink recycling, but nothing for my tech recycling. The rewards support person told me the stores
handles the tech recycling rewards, so I called the store. The store manager told me I had to call support, but said that the store employees JUST got their recycling rewards for August. I guess I’ll have to call support again.

Yes, I have receipts for both September and October. I’ll definitely hold on to them until this is cleared up.

I brought in an item to recycle early Oct. I saw that reflected in my account but never got any $5 reward though… Is the reward supposed to show up same month or the next month?

next month, just like cartridge recycling
-
what constitutes a “small server”? My server is just a little larger than a tower PC, is that small? Also, if my copier can sit on a counter top does that mean its not a floor model? Stupid questions I know but I’d rather ask here than be turned down when I got to Staples.
Someone intentionally left a large Keurig machine (carafe & pod) in a grocery cart in the supermarket parking lot. CS told me that they would throw it out. I took it to recycle.
-
Correct to both. You can’t lift a floor model copier, need a truck.
I bought a really old scanner the first time and 2 car charging cords the second, they’ve been in my car seat pocket for way too long and we’re broken when they went in. I’m happy to get rid of them.

Hi. I have what might be silly questions…
I plan to buy a black Friday Laptop deal tomorrow morning and would like to use the $130 worth of rewards dollars to to bring the price down. There is wording about not being able to use the rewards on “promotional products”. Will that keep me from using the rewards dollars as planned?
Also, will the black Friday deal be available online, or will I have to go a brick-and-mortar store?
Thanks in advance. And a Happy Thanksgiving to all!

You’re good to go! "Promotional Products’ refers to custom made orders for a business (ie, ordering t-shirts or hats with a company name/logo on them) not a laptop.
Most items should be online for shipping or at the very least, store pick up. so either way you should be able to do your shopping online. Don’t forget to start at a CB site, some don’t pay out on the purchase of computers so you have to read the fine print.
