Staples $10 Tech Recycling In Store Only 4/16 - 6/17
-
Saw signs today.
I’m thinking to recycle for $10 after April 16, recycle in May for $10 then before June 17 for another $10.
Thoughts?
-
definitely! 3x $10 is a lot of free stuff. I’ll hold off the April recycling till after 4/16.
-
@mmyk The last time we got $10 my Dad’s account only received $5 but for some reason also received $40 even though the account only recycles tech. So maybe more than $30.

Will Staples PM WM/Target on breakroom stuff?
Stacks with rewards?

Thanks OP. I didn’t catch this on the web site.
I’d love it if they also doubled the ink recycling awards in honor of earth day.
-
@my4mainecoons you mean $40 without any purchase minimum… that’s sweet.
I did get $10 2 months ago … just used it before the 3/31 expiration.
-
SWEET, I’m in

Remember, you have to spend $50 in ink/toner every six months to be eligible to recycle ink. And buying empty ink carts has risen almost 2-3x the price on ebay, 450 carts is about $95 now, compared to about $40-45 for the same quantity in 2020.

My (ink buying) Premier account got a $110 (?) Reward for no reason and when it was upgraded to Elite it received a $150 Reward. They just appear in the account for no reason.

Any possibility they might again offer rewards for shredding, like they did before? I’m purging old household records, enough of a big pile that I’ll take them to Staples to shred. Thanks for the heads-up on the dates to get the $10 electronics recycling reward.
-
From next week’s ad, this offer is valid 4/16-6/17.
There is also 15% off in-store purchase of $30 when you recycle, valid 4/22-4/23.
-
Also from next weeks ad: “App exclusive deal $20 back in rewards on your in-store purchase of $50 or more” valid 4/16/23 - 4/22/23
-

Keep in mind you can’t pay with rewards that lowers your OOP below $50 pre tax, you can use a $/$$ coupon (say $15 off $75) and still earn the $20rwds as your oop is still above $50.

New items for recycling. It’s not clear if these are all in the same “tech recycling” category, but that’s my assumption because I don’t think Staples is generous enough to give out even more free rewards.
Single-use alkaline NEW
Non-rechargeable lithium NEW
Pens and markers NEW
Mechanical pencils NEW
Phone cases NEW
Tablet cases NEW

@c3 said in Staples $10 Tech Recycling In Store Only 4/16 - 6/3:
Single-use alkaline NEW
Wow, I have a GIANT stash of dead alkaline batteries, and I’ve been looking for somewhere to take them since I stopped going in to my office where they had a drop box. Basically nobody takes alkaline batteries for recycling or disposal, and I didn’t want to just put them in the trash. This is good news independent of any rewards.

Tablet cases NEWSince tech items pay $10 (through 6/17/23) and batteries and markers only pay $5, you have to choose between one or the other? I might be daring and do tech recycling and also recycle an alkaline battery and see if I get $15. It is strange that on the sign in the OP it says the $10 amount doesn’t start until tomorrow, 4/16, and only runs through 6/3, but on the link you provided it says it starts today (now) and runs through 6/17. Hmm… What to believe. I think I will wait until at least tomorrow (4/16) to recycle to be on the safe side. I knew my FAR Office Depot batteries stash would one day be good for something. I suppose you can recycle just a single new alkaline battery and have that satisfy the requirement for recycling in that category. Even in the picture from your link it just shows single alkaline batteries. I think I will recycle the tech item first and on another day recycle the alkaline battery, just in case they only pay you for one or the other. I’d rather get $10 rather than just $5. I bet you could even recycle a dead alkaline battery. I doubt they are going to be sitting there with a battery tester behind the counter testing batteries as you drop them off to ensure they are new.
-
Can I get $10 for a dead Logitech mouse tomorrow?
-
I think it is unlikely that the promo begins on a Saturday as the sales week begins on Sunday. Wait until Sunday the 16th. The website could have a mistake that they will correct. It’s harder to correct the thousands of print signs posted in stores.
-
I just found 4 of these NIB. Were they FAR from Newegg? Am I correct that they are for OTA TV reception and that I should recycle them?

if you have no use for them, can’t say on the FAR question. didn’t participate nor do I remember it.
-
@mistercheap I don’t know what they are. I was recycling old UPS until @briarycliffs said they were worth keeping.

Something you connect to TV antenna cable to filter out noise? With those cables, I’m sure it’s consider a Tech item.

@mmyk TVM. I’m bringing an old/slow wifi router and Google dongle just in case.

If you scroll to the bottom of that link, the fine print says both promos are valid 4/16-6/17. Based on those terms, these are indeed separate offers, $10 in the tech category, and $5 in the other categories.
-
Where are y’all seeing alkaline batteries? This is what I see:
What can’t be recycled in store.
Air conditioners
Alkaline batteries
Appliances
Floor-model printers and copiers
Kitchen appliances
Lamps or bulbs
Large servers
Large speakers
Non-rechargeable lithium batteries
Smoke detectors
Televisions
Vaporizers

I wonder if the alkaline batteries is just for this promo, because it says for the full and current list go here, and it excludes alkaline batteries.
I’m taking my old incredible droid next week. Charged it up to wipe it and it worked like a breeze. Still love that little phone. My stack of old phones is getting big, need to unload some.
-
My two cents here:
Junk is junk, whether it is an old USB or memory stick or cell phone or phone charger cord or AC adapter for an old style charger. With that said, if you DO have something lying around that clearly falls in the tech category, for $10 I’d go that route.
Bringing in a new AA Duracell may work but then with how staples screws up at times, you may find $5 or $0 posted to your account and you’d have to fight for your money. If that’s all you have to ‘donate’ from your stash, so be it and hope it works out.
Good luck no matter what you decide!
-
Make sure the correct category is on the receipt before you leave.
Ink recycling 725137 ($2 per cartridge, up to 20)
Other technology 690307 ($10 for this promo)

@sonofzeus I’ve successfully recycled a dead Logitech mouse.
I suspect that the pens, mechanical pencils and alkaline batteries will fall under Other Technology and not be a separate category but it would be nice if I was wrong.
As for the list, I recycled a toaster oven in the fall. I believe “kitchen appliances” means large kitchen appliances because I recall that coffee makers would be accepted. That reminds me that I have a Phillips Senseo in my attic. Its still in its shipping carton. Phillips sent out new machines because of a recall. My 1st machine never exploded and I used it until Keurigs were invented.
ETA: The code for COMPUTER Recycling is 690806. I think I gave them a digital kitchen scale. It might also have been an electronic thermometer or clock radio. I can’t remember but it was not a CPU, laptop or tablet.

Oh definitely. We amass a lot of junk just because someone is paying us to take it off their hands.

@c3 Wonderful 411. Many years ago, Ms SOZ inherited her Dad’s ancient fountain pens. They have zero utility and zero resale value.
We’ll take $5 Rewards x 2 x 3 mo.
