My team is currently in first place in the team challenge. Thatâs big time for a 4-team, 300 SB swagup hopefully.
As usual, they assigned me to the last place team. We took 3rd place briefly but slipped back into 4th. A free 50 SB is better than nothing⌠at least thatâs what I keep telling myself.
I keep having to remind myself not to cash out my SB before the team challenge ends so I can use the swag up discount.
Last nightâs SB live game had the lowest number of winners I remember seeing in a very long time (just under 5K). Too bad the pot was only $1,000 because the winners only received about 20 SB + bonus SB.
Yea, I used to redeem every first of the month for my $25 discounted to $22 gift card, but I usually wait for the team challenge nowadays (unless thereâs a special swagup like a birthday or something.) Old habits die hard, I was so used to waiting for the first of the month.
You can still wait for the first of the month because the team challenges occur so late in the month that the swag ups donât expire until a few days into the next month. For example, the swag ups for the current game expire on December 5th.
Ah, didnât notice this monthâs late expiration date. I thought most of them expired before the last day of the month.

Iâm sitting on a $30 in Rock Bottom gift card I got a deal on. Thankfully they still exist, but they closed their location in Cincinnati and arenât located in a city I will be in anytime soon. Hopefully I can use it at some point. Iâm actually on a mission to use up old gift cards. Not that Iâm worried they will all go out of business, but I did hear that some lose value. Doesnât seem like thatâs happened, but some of these are easily 5+ years old so I figured Iâd should just use them.
Gift cards can become worthless if a store goes out of business, but otherwise they are regulated and cannot incur fees or lose value or expire.
If it has been five years since the gift card was activated, then yes it can lose value or expire. Some states have non-expiration laws, but not all of them. And if there was a fee structure or policy given with the card, then it goes by the fee structure.

Ragu pasta sauce at Target is close to break-even again with the X pattern on the Swago board. +100 SB for buying 2, +250 SB for the X pattern. $1.99 cost for each jar of Ragu.
If youâre a gambling man/woman, then itâs a $.75 money-maker if you buy one jar of Ragu. +25 SB for buying 1, +250 SB for the X pattern. However, Iâve never actually tried buying just the one because the Swago board requires a premium deal marked by a star - it should qualify if you buy one because it has a star, but the vast majority of premium deals are over $.50 (50 SB back) and given Swagbucks tendency to send Magic Receipts into receipt review and not getting a reply back because this Swago ends October 31; all this means itâs a slight gamble for buying one jar.
That said, breaking-even on groceries is becoming exceedingly tougher due to the coupon apps recent lack of deals, so these offers are quite competitive, comparatively.
You could also factor in any to-do list and daily goal bonuses.
What coupon apps are still out there? Right now Iâm only using e-coupons offered by grocery stores that are linked to my store card/account.
The digital coupons are probably best, you already know it will work with the store youâre shopping at, especially if things go awry at the register and your coupon doesnât credit.
ibotta: still has good referral bonuses. scrolling through a bunch of deals that arenât really spectacular, occasional freebies or BOGO offers. traditional bonuses for redeeming more offers is unobtainable for me because I donât really do that much branded shopping. Redeems as true cash back by paypal or gift cards.
fetch rewards: this is the simplest, you just take a picture of the receipt and are immediately credited points (2.5 cents every grocery/restaurant/paper receipt for anything in a store) and their offers are not bad for the brands that partner with fetch. Redeems as gift cards.
checkout51: this one seems to be dying out, SmartSource (the newspaper coupon Sunday circular) bought this app a while ago and has kept it afloat. There seems to be a lack of new offers, although they also have the best recurring offer of $2 off $10 fresh beef that no other coupon app offers. Redeems as paypal or a physical check.
Tada/Magic Receipts:
strangely, some of their offers are very competitive, even though they donât have a ton of brand partners. And the offers for stuff like Fruit of the Loom or Hanes are unique among coupon apps in that theyâre high-dollar amounts and recurring every week (you can use once a week and it comes back, extremely rare in coupon apps.)
coupons.com: this is the simplest, clip coupon, take pic of a receipt, get paypal instantly. the problem is that they rarely have great offers, and their offers on food are becoming even more rare. the other problem is they have restrictions on redeeming manufacturer coupons (paper coupons) or even store coupons (CVS Extrabucks or those instant register discounts at Costco) and every offer becomes a gamble as to whether you get paid or not.
receipt hog: takes forever to build up even a $5 cashout, but this app is quite good if you ever need to catalog your receipt purchases and need pictures of your receipts. redeems as amazon gift cards or paypal.
â
I donât think anybody is getting rich off of coupon apps, but it helps defray the cost of branded groceries and sometimes generic store brand groceries. I buy generic store brand products a lot of the time just because of the hassle factor.
Good summary. Donât forget Amazon Alexa shopping lists offers (https://www.engadget.com/amazons-latest-alexa-feature-lets-you-scan-shopping-receipts-for-cashback-rewards-124547327.html). 99% of the offers are the same as coupons.com. In the beginning, they gave cash back for offers that coupons.com rejected but Iâve now had some rejected when using another coupon on the item, so itâs a similar gamble to coupons.com. So I donât take the risk anymore for a great deal unless itâs an item I would buy anyway. But itâs possible to double dip with both of them and occasionally other apps.
For me, Iâm considering deleting checkout 51. It took me several years just to get to my first $20. I would go for long periods of time without having any offers I could use. Apparently at 6 months of inactivity, they will start deducting money from your balance, so once it got to that point I purposely redeemed a spaghetti sauce offer which wasnât that great of a deal just to not lose any money in my account. So if it gets to that point, I should probably just delete the app.
@ctujackbauer If Tada does referrals, feel free to send me one as thatâs the only one I didnât know.
If you already have a Swagbucks account, then you log in to Tada/Magic Receipts with your Swagbucks account login.

Also, back to the topic and I mentioned this in another thread, Starbucks is still similar in points to the old Dunkin Donuts program - if you use a reusable cup. 25 points for a reusable cup each time, double points for each dollar if you use a Starbucks card/gift card/rewards program. Stack with their email offers and it goes down to about one free drink every 3 purchases.
That may be, but Iâm just not a fan of Starbucks, letâs hope the bad press and upset customers will be enough for Dunkinâ to rethink their program. If sales drop off, Iâm sure that will persuade them like nothing else.
Hereâs to hoping.
Dunkin has a bigger presence in your area. Starbucks is ubiquitous here, I know of one medium-sized shopping plaza that has a standalone Starbucks, another Starbucks inside the Ralphâs (Kroger) grocery store, and another Starbucks inside the Target.
In that plaza, one could walk to three different Starbucks in 2 or 3 minutes.

This movie and this speech was relevant to its time (late 70âs) and the current time.
Also, as an aside, Starbucks gives an extra 25 bonus stars for every paid purchase if you bring in a reusable mug/cup/container, in addition to a 10 cent or 5 cent discount. They started that for earth day and still give it out.
You can rack up a free drink from Starbucks relatively quickly by signing up for email offers, some weeks you get two offers and they always stack if you meet the terms of both offers.

Iâm skipping the middle row and going for the X pattern. Ragu sauce at Target is a modest money maker again (pay $4 for two and get 300 SB for 2, 250 SB for X pattern) and though I havenât checked the prices yet, I would wager that Coca-Cola Dreamworld at CVS would be a more than decent sized money maker (500 SB for 2, 250 SB for X pattern) because those 20 ounce bottles are usually $2.00 or so.I would also wager that the Coca-Cola Dreamworld at CVS offer is going away soon because of the size of the money maker and the fact that it increased its SB back (I think it was 250 SB just a few hours ago.)
Quick update: the Ragu Sauce at Target is now not a money maker (buy 2 for $4, get 100 SB for 2, 250 SB for X pattern) although it is pretty close and given that ibotta and other companies are cracking down on great deals/money makers, this is pretty good comparatively.
I swear I never get search credits to complete the Swago board unless itâs one of those collectorâs bills. These things are becoming my new white whale.
Iâm even holding off on a Magic Receipts purchase because of this.
