For app only deals, get a cheap smartphone or dust off an old one you kept after a previous phone upgrade (do a factory reset after backing up your data to delete all personal information). Use such phones on wifi only and don’t ever put/import any personal data into them. Then you can install as many apps as you want to take advantage of any in-app only deals without fear of your data being stolen or your device being infected with a virus/malware. This works well not only for one-off deals like this one, but also for ongoing/daily cash back apps like ibotta and coupons-dot-com, and recurring retailer in-app deals like those periodically oferred by eBay. If you don’t have an old phone laying around, maybe someone you know has one they can loan you or sell to you for cheap.

The seller is “the” USPS (i.e., the manufacturer). USPS is selling their stamps at full price. The 20% off code is a one day “site-wide” discount directly from eBay. The coupon does not change the amount that USPS gets paid (they get the full amount listed on the product page for each sale).

So, you can now look up the address of a specific store in your state to see if you may have purchased contaminated pre-cut fruit. Fruit that was cut up in-store/by the store itself from whole fruits is not included in the recall.

As first spotted by Android Central and later covered by Gizmodo, users are complaining about the issue on Reddit and the company’s official forums. According to Gizmodo: “Currently, the prevailing theory as to what’s causing this bug is a weird interaction between Samsung Messages and recent RCS profile updates that have rolled out on carriers including T-Mobile. The goal of RCS (Rich Communication Services) is to enhance the outdated SMS protocol with new features like better media sharing, typing indicators, and read receipts.”

Until Samsung enables a fix, try going to Settings > Apps/Application Manager > Samsung Messages > Permissions > Storage… and disable that permission. Switching to a different texting app may be another option.

Best Buy, Monster HDMI Cables Class Action Settlement

A settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit alleging Monster Inc., Best Buy Stores LP, and BestBuy .com LLC falsely advertised Monster HDMI Cables by tricking consumers into thinking they needed a more expensive type of product.

If you bought a Monster HDMI Cable between Aug. 25, 2011 and March 6, 2018, you could get $10 to $35 in cash or store credit from the Best Buy class action settlement.

Lead plaintiffs alleged in their Monster, Best Buy class action lawsuit that consumers were deceived by the product packaging on Monster HDMI Cables and were duped into spending money on a more powerful HDMI cord than necessary for their high-def TVs.

The Monster HDMI Cables at issue in the class action lawsuit include the Advanced High Speed, Ultimate High Speed, and Ultra High Speed.

Monster and Best Buy agreed to settle the HDMI Cables class action lawsuit, although they admit no liability. Under the terms of the settlement, Class Members can receive either store credit or a cash payment. The amount of the settlement award depends on the type of HDMI cord purchased.

Best Buy, Monster customers who are able to submit a proof of purchase along with their Claim Form have no limit to the number of claims they can file for. Those consumers who are unable to provide a receipt will be limited to one claim for store credit.

Proof of Purchase: Store credit requires no proof of purchase. To receive a cash award, Class Members must submit proof of purchase including receipt, credit card statement, or picture of the HDMI cable box.

The deadline to opt out of or object to the settlement is June 18, 2018.

I’ve bought OEM mobile phone batteries for various models and brands from 3rd party sellers on Amazon for years without any problems.

I make sure that I choose sellers with a lot of positive seller reviews and sales (preferably in the thousands), that battery is a genuine OEM, that the battery has a lot of real reviews (hundreds, if not thousands), and the battery reviews are at least 3.5 stars (with reasonable/acceptable reasons for downvotes in the reviews). Finally, I only buy if the 3rd party item is shipped by Amazon so I have Amazon’s backing in the case of any problems/disputes.

I tend to pay $6 to $9 per battery, always with free shipping (sometimes I can stack a slow shipping bonus because I have Prime). All of the batteries I’ve bought on Amazon have lasted as long, or longer, as the original battery and performed exactly the same.

Depends on whether you bought them. My understanding is that if you buy them, you own them and can watch them “forever” and as many times as you want. If it’s free with Prime, you usually have 30 days to finish watching a video (shortened to 48 hours after you start watching). I believe access to free rental videos made through Primes ends when you end your Prime membership:

Three different snack food companies recently did nationwide recalls for several of their products due to their supplier of whey protein powder notifying them that the powder may have been contaminated with Salmonella.

No illnesses have been reported yet. Salmonella may cause serious (sometimes fatal) infections in young children, the frail, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and (in rare circumstances), may get into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.

None of the companies have disclosed their supplier, so it is unknown if the recalls are linked.

• Flowers Foods: voluntarily recalled several varieties of Swiss Rolls sold under many different brand names (Mrs. Freshley’s, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker’s Treat, Market Square,
  Great Value, Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread).

• Mondelez: voluntarily recalled 16 varieties of Ritz Bits and sandwich crackers (including Ritz Bits Cheese, Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bacon Cracker Sandwiches with Cheese). Their recall covers the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. PDF.

I agree. I see or use FW swag in my house daily but I try not to think about it too much anyway. It took a long time to get used to habitual things like not being able to search their forums for past threads/info (the Way Back Machine only works if you already have the exact thread URL already). If you didn’t get a promised t-shirt at FW, a moderator would have apologized and personally ensured you got one ASAP, and might have thrown in a little swag too.

Relatedly, it would have been nice to have some recognition of PhW’s 1 year anniversary. It wasn’t easy to pull of what we all did on such short notice, and quite a number of people volunteered their time to make it all happen.

It is sad not to have everyone all together on one site, but I think of all of the new post-FW options, PhW was been the most active (and largest?). SD is a lot bigger and a lot more active but a lot more hostile and impersonal, and other options are much smaller, less active, and more cliquish… or don’t have a proper forum format that encourages discussion/member sharing/deal posting, etc. PhW has had it’s mis-steps, but that is to be expected and it will continue to improve over time. So, I think a number of people who migrated elsewhere may eventually find their way (back) here.

Apparently, the consensus is that we’re allowed to start talking about “the holidays” on October 1st now. In my defense, I did wait a day, LOL.

Actually, I’m really curious to see how this Black Friday will play out given a number of factors like the largest competitor (Amazon) raising it’s minimum wage to $15/hour, the trade tariffs on China (I doubt all retailers were able to stockpile enough quantities of all products before the price hike), so many brands closing B&M locations, retailers having difficulty filling seasonal job openings, Toys R Us going defunct, etc. I personally don’t plan to shop much, but it will be interesting to observe.

ETA: and increased shipping prices are now another concern.

That’s a bummer. Are you on their best customer list at all? I may be mistaken, but I think I recall you complaining about not getting a previous best customer offer. If you never get their (a) best customer notification emails, (b) best customer paper coupons via postal service, ( c) see “Best-Customer Bonus” as a filter option under “refine by” and “Special Savings” on the all coupons page, you are not enrolled in the program and will never receive any if these offers. If that is the case, I’d call customer service and ask to be added or find out what you need to do to qualify if they’re not authorized to manually add you.
