The conversation to the new rewards was a total disaster for me. My staples.com userid was not my email address and I could not enroll in the new program. I kept getting an error when trying to sign up. I was on chat for over an hour trying to fix. They changed my userid to my email address and then I could enroll. But now all my purchase history is GONE and I can only recycle 10 cartridges a month. I was premier and could recycle 20 before. I have to start all over again.
Did they fix this?
An account “migrated” just fine so I recycled. A few days later I checked the account and the Rewards part was gone. Chatted. Had to sign up again and in doing so my recycling went down to 100 for 10 from 400 for 15. Fortunately I’d taken a screenshot of the 400 for 15 and am in the process of getting that restored and the points from recycling last week issued. The account had 2@$5 Tech Recycling Rewards for which they sent me a $15/$15 which doesn’t expire for 6 months.I changed the email address on this account ~ 2 years ago and that caused the hiccup. Accounts without changes didn’t hiccup.

As pointed out by someone on SD, https://www.staples.com/stores/recycling now says that the tech recycling program expires on 3/30/24. Not sure if the whole program expires on that date, or just the next one (March) which has not started yet.
-
If I recycled a battery on 2/29 for 1,000 points, can I recycle another battery again now and earn another 1,000 points?
Nevermind. Through some research, I see the answer to my question is “Yes”.

Anyone else not get the ‘1000 pts when you recycle tech’ offer Easy Rewards under “For You” or “More Offers”? Not showing up in my app…

I just recycled a battery this morning and got my 1,000 points right away. It did list the offer in the app though. It was already activated. I didn’t have to activate it.

Thanks, it’s not there at all for me, to activate or pre-activated. I wonder if I’m just not eligible for tech recycling pts at all this month.
I am still getting 400pts for 50 cartridges again this month, too bad I don’t do those lol.

That’s worth 20,000 points, or $100! I’m no longer doing it, since my account has only 100x10.
-
My ink recycling reward changed this month. Previously it was showing 10 for 100 points each, now it’s 15 for 400. I actually have a few around to recycle, so I guess now is a good time, along with my monthly tech recycling.

I updated the app and now I see the ‘1000 pts when you recycle tech’ offer pre-activated under Easy Rewards.

It’s the 2nd Thurs of the month (as of EST) and I just got the $5 Reward for recycling a cable in Feb, a couple days before the new program began. I also got 1000 pts for recycling another cable right after the new program began. So total of $10 (Reward & Pts) for tech recycling in Feb due to the program change. In addition to the 1000 pts for recycling a cable last week in March.

And I received my ink recycling rewards for ink that was turned in under the old program.

FYI, I have recycled Tech several times this month, and got the $10 off $30 Q every time. Used in conjunction with rewards and points

So you received credit for recycling ink twice in Feb.? Nice.
I didn’t want to potentially waste 30 empty cartridges so I only recycled 20 under the old program. Received the usual $40 Reward.
I bought 400 empties right before they announced the program change. They would have lasted 20 mos. I thought I was screwed. Happily things worked out but what would have lasted 20 months will now only last 6 months. First World problem.

I got a $10/$30 and a 50% off Duracell battery coupon when I recycled a battery yesterday.

Looks like it is really dead.
-
Yeah I don’t see the 1000 pts for tech recycling on the app and the website still says it expired on 3/30/24. Hope it comes back later…
-
Isn’t April Earth month (or at least contains Earth Day). Seems a strange time to cancel a recycling program. Hopefully they’ll restart it soon in some form.

Well, no reason for me to even set foot in a staples store now. Will use up what rewards/coupons they sent me and say buh-bye!
-
I’m hoping it’s temporary while they figure out how to program it separately from ink cartridges.
-
Someone on SD reported that the March tech recycling period has been extended to 4/6.
-
@c3 Dunno, https://www.staples.com/stores/recycling
still says the 1000 pts for tech recycling expires 3/30/24. I don’t see any update on the app either. Hope they have something for Earth day.

1000 points for tech recycling is available for the next 2 weeks, until 4/20.

Not just tech. Single-use alkaline batteries are included as well. My FAR Office Depot batteries continue to keep on giving.
-
I recycled alkaline batteries a few hours ago and got the 1000 points already.
The people in the store, this time and last week when I recycled ink/toner, insisted that the tech recycling program never ended and will keep going (regardless of my telling them that it was clearly no longer on the website last week). So hopefully despite their apparent misinformation regarding what is being told to customers, it will continue beyond 4/20.

I’m recycling my last 20 cartridges this month and checking eBay to purchase a new batch. I’ve forgotten how many points we get now for each recycled cartridge.
-
@dionaea the points vary. Check your account to find out. 400 per empty is $2 as before.

I’m only getting 100 points per cart, which is 50c measley cents. with carts on Ebay running in the 40c range, it’s not worth it to make 10c a cart (can only do a max of 10 which is $5 in rewards in my case) why bother? So frustrating, and not sure what the rhyme or reason is to be eligible for 400 points or more per.

I hear you, MC. My offer is only 50 cents a cartridge, too. That is why I only recycle st Office Depot now.
-
The rhyme & reason most likely are related to how much you spent at Staples. If all one did was to recycle and spend the Rewards they lost money on that customer. This seems to be the year for merchants to decrease the value of their loyalty programs.

I have literally spent thousands of dollars on toner and only have the crappy 100 points per cartridge x 10. Meanwhile the 2 accounts that had Plus still have 400 points x 20 carts. If I knew earlier I would’ve signed up for plus for the rest of the accounts, but I think I was till getting my 20 carts due to spend.
What I want to know is how someone here has 400 point x 40 carts.
Also the tech recycling thing is back $5 for recycling (including ink carts) x 1.

@dangeruss
I don’t understand what they are doing at all, either. I posted earlier in this thread that the amount of ink recycling they were offering me changed from the original 10 for 100 points each to 15 for 400 points. And now they are offering me 30 for 400. I am not in the recycling game in general (maybe their motivation?) and only recycled some this month because I happened to run out of toner recently, and someone passed a few more on to me. I don’t have Plus. I used to shop at Staples a lot more, mostly clearance deals when they were real deals in the old days (luckily I didn’t give away all my free cases of paper and kept a few), but only shop occasionally now, mostly when I can stack coupons and tech recycling rewards to buy things like paper towels and toilet paper. It would definitely be better if they were clear about the program and not offering so many different permutations to different people.
-
Anyone redeem the Rewards points in the store yet? Do they ask for a PIN or zip code to use the points? I told a relative to go ahead and redeem my points for their purchase and need to know if anything other than phone number is required? Thanks.
-
@pakle Nothing required but the phone number/card.

Maybe I need to stop recycling for a bit
-
I recycled tech. Then did a 2nd transaction recycling 30 ink. Probably a minute or less between transactions but it worked. Received 1000 then 30@400 points.

The current 1000-point ($5) recycling offer expires this Saturday 4/20.
Next week will have a 2000-point ($10) recycling offer expiring on 4/27.
I think these are separate offers, so you can do it once per offer, but don’t know for sure.

“Points don’t expire so long as your Easy Rewards™ member account is active. For an account to remain active, a member must earn or redeem at least one point in an 18-month period.”
-
@c3 TVM. Our town has “garbage amnesty” week at the end of April. I will separate the Staples recyclables for monthly rewards on our accounts.

If you already recycled in April, before the 2000-point week, your account should not have a new recycling offer this week.
-
@c3 Doesn’t it work by the month? I thought May 1.
