Expired: Hot! Am Ex offers: Spend $10+, get $5 back, up to 10 times when you Shop Small by 9/20/20. Must activate offer by 8/23/20. On Serve card, too. - You can use the FLUZ app to buy gc's from Walnart and Amazon that trigger bonus - see post

YMMV, but …, Surprisingly, after adding the offer to my Am Ex Blue Preferred card, I went to my AM EX SERVE account and I saw the offer still listed and it allowed me to save the offer. After I saved the offer on my Blue card, the offer went away on my Everyday and Hilton Hhonors card, but was still there and able to be saved on my Serve card.

(If you can find the merchant on this list then they qualify as a small business.)
Offer Details
Enroll by 8/23/20. Get a $5 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $10+ at a US business location on the Shop Small Map (or Online Directory) by 9/20/20. Limit of 10 statement credits (total of $50). Terms apply.
Offer Terms
CARD ELIGIBILITY: You must first add offer to an eligible Card through Amex Offers by 8/23/2020 to enroll in the offer and then use that same enrolled Card to make qualifying purchases. Only U.S.-issued American Express Consumer and Business Cards and registered American Express Serve® and Bluebird cards are eligible. American Express Prepaid Cards, Corporate Cards and American Express Cards issued outside the United States are not eligible. This offer is also available to Additional Card Members on Consumer and Business Card accounts. To receive up to 10 statement credits, Additional Card Members must individually add the offer to their Additional Card and make qualifying purchases with their Additional Card. Limit of 1 enrolled Card per Card Member. Your enrollment of an eligible Card for this offer extends only to that Card. After you enroll an eligible Card, you will not be able to enroll a second eligible Card that you may have. QUALIFYING PURCHASES: A “qualifying purchase” means a purchase made at a business location in the U.S. on the Shop Small Map, available at americanexpress.com/shopsmalloffer, or the Online Directory, available at americanexpress.com/shopsmallonline, with your enrolled Card or with Pay with Points linked to an enrolled Card on or before 9/20/2020 in accordance with these terms. The following do NOT count as a qualifying purchase: fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of traveler’s checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid Cards, purchases of any cash equivalents or purchases made in foreign currencies. You may not receive a statement credit if we receive inaccurate information or are otherwise unable to identify your purchase as qualified for the offer. For example, you may not receive the statement credit if (a) the Merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services except that qualifying purchases made through Resy.com and the Resy mobile app will qualify for the offer; or (b) the Merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers); or © you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet. Note that we may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from Merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided/shipped by Merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If we do not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. OTHER TERMS: Offer is non-transferable. The enrolled Card account must not be cancelled or past due to receive statement credit. Any benefit earned from this offer is in addition to the rewards (i.e. points, miles or cash back) that you may earn as part of your existing Card benefits. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 9/20/2020, provided that we receive information from the Merchant about your qualifying purchase. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that we may send you communications about the offer. We are working hard to connect our Card Members and Merchant partners to deliver benefits to them both during this challenging time. Due to this unprecedented period of disruption, note that the Merchants listed on the Shop Small Map or the Online Directory may change and your ability to redeem Amex Offers may be affected at this time due to changes in some Merchants’ operations, such as reduced hours or suspension of in-person shopping, dining or services. In addition, business location and other information provided on the Shop Small Map or the Online Directory may contain inaccuracies or errors. While we hope to provide you with this offer on these terms, given the unpredictability of the current situation, we may need, and we reserve the right, to change or cancel this offer at any time.
American Express used to offer these shop small discounts on Small Business Saturday for many years:
2010: $25 back on $25+ in purchases
2011: $25 back on $25+ in purchases
2012: $25 back on $25+ in purchases
2013: $10 back on $10+ in purchases
2014: $10 back on $10+ in purchases (usable three times)
2015: No public offer, was instead replaced by a targeted American Express offer
$10 back on $10+ in purchases for personal cards
$20 off $100 in purchases for business cardsIt’s nice to see this offer return, especially with so many small businesses hurting right now due to COVID-19. If you own a small business, accept American Express and are on the shop small map my recommendation would be to put together ‘packs’ or gift cards for $10 and inform your customers about this promotion so that you can both take advantage of it. I’d love to see other card issuers/payment networks offer something similar but I doubt we see it. This should be an easy $50 in credits for most people.
-
Funny @MrVietnam I don’t recall the $25 off $25 years, however the $10 off $10 years were limit 5 I believe. Not sure the limit on the $25 offers.

Well hopefully I will be able to make 40 $10 purchases because I saved it on my Blue Cash Preferred card and my Serve card and also on my wife’s and mother’s Serve cards, which I use. So I might be able to save up to $200 on this promo. The one thing about using the offer on a Serve card is you have to completer all 10 transactions with one month and then empty out the balance on your Serve card (by making a purchase) or get dinged with a monthly fee (If your card balance is zero they do not charge the monthly fee.) I am pretty sure this deal will work on gift cards, too.
-
One idea if you have a larger purchase, you can split your transactions into $10 increments, as long as the merchant is willing. Each transaction will qualify.
-
Saw this strategy by a poster on SD. It’s worth a try at least:
Added it to two cards by adding it to each at the same time, one from mobile and one from desktop. YMMV
-
@mrvietnam I have a local indoor farmers market that takes amex where I can get breads, veggies/fruit, fresh fish, deli, etc and use this. also some local restaurants for take out.
Have two Amex cards so up to 20 uses between the two cards.
-
Had this on a bunch, but strangely not all my amex cards. Seemed pretty random which ones got it and which ones didn’t (maybe they haven’t all loaded yet).
Don’t forget to check your serve cards as well.
-
This deal works out great for me because my wife often shops at a local Vietnamese grocery store, which is on the list as a small business, so we can get half price groceries for a while.
-
Didn’t Amex remove the possibility of being credited for an offer on more than one card, so a bit confused how Mr. Cheap knows he’ll be credited for 2 cards and that Mr. Vietnam will be credited for Serve cards. I have read that Amex has clawed back cashback if they saw the circumventing of their guidelines.

As far as I know, these offers are still only one per person/SS#, but with that said I have the offer on a regular Am Ex credit card and a Serve Card. I would make the grocery purchases anyway, so if they want to claw back then that is their prerogative, but I really have nothing to lose and money back to gain. I too was surprised to see the offer ready to be loaded to my Serve Card after I loaded it to my Blue Cash Preferred Card, but now even after 8 hours since loading the offers they are still there, so it’s worth a shot. Worst case scenario is that I would have to pay regular price for my groceries. I’m willing to take the “risk”.

Perhaps not a shoo-in, but I think if it let’s you add to more than one card your odds of reaping the benefits are good. In the future I will update this post and let you guys know if I experienced the infamous Am Ex claw back or not.

You may not have experienced it but do a search of amex clawback, and you will see many instances of credit reversals on completed offers.

Just a FYI: I just did two $10+ transactions at a confirmed small business and I did not get the “Congratulations on using the Am Ex offer” e-mail that sometimes goes out when you use an Am Ex offer, but that does not concern me at all because I am sure I will get credited. I just wanted to put that out there. I read on that other board that some people are getting Congrats e-mails though.
Two offer uses down, 38 to go and two months, three weeks to do it.

Great Amex Offer!
First added this offer on my Amex Everday Card.
The offer also showed for my Amex Blue, but when I tried to add the offer, it said “Sorry about that! The offer you selected has already been added to one of your Cards.”Went to check on my Bluebird, the same offer was available, and I succussfully added the offer.

Yes, for some reason they are allowing you to add the offer again if you have either a Bluebird or Serve account, so that’s a nice perk. Hopefully they won’t try to claw it back later on though…
-
Bluebird has good offers? I remember some of these offers were much worse than the credit card offers. Do you think bluebird family members cards are afforded the same offers too?

No, it is an ethnic Supermarket in the Little Saigon (Orange County), CA area. They sell Vietnamese groceries. I have bought there previously during past small business offers and have received the credits.

Load them to Amazon balance.
Redeem for Safeway/Albertsons/Jewel GC.
When they offer 20% off on 6 bottles, buy the wine/spirits with $35 mail-in-rebate (Inmar).
Net price/bottle will be $1-$3 inc tax.

@sonofzeus There are very, very few local small biz. that sell Amazon GC’s or any national brand GC. Some may sell their OWN GC’s but I wouldn’t count on finding $10 Amazon GC’s at a local restaurant or Mom/Pop place. And even if you find one, good luck having them run your Amex 10x for 10 $10 GC’s.

I remember years ago there a shop small deal and we ran out of places to use it at, and came to this pet store, and had them run something like 20 transactions of $15 or something to load up their gift card. Next time I saw them they remembered me and said they weren’t really supposed to do that and almost got in trouble.
-
When the deal was first posted, there were very few blue dots in my area. When I checked this morning, the number of dots has tripled. They must have fixed their map. Now the local feed store is listed as participating, before I was having trouble even finding a place that I would go to.

I have to disagree Mr. V If I were a small merchant, I would be leery of running a credit card 10x for the same amount from a customer I didn’t know. Plus sometimes Amex will decline consecutive charges all for the same amount made in a matter of minutes. And even if you could, I’d love to know what SHOP SMALL place sells $10 Amazon GC’s? I’ve never seen them anywhere in small shops around my area.

Not sure who you’re disagreeing with, but while the merchant might be leery, I’m not sure if it’s any more risky for them than running a single $100 charge.
I agree about the problem of consecutive charges. I believe you can do something like $10, $10.01, $10.02, etc

Our grocers and liquor stores on the map sell Amazon GCs.
I just left a grocer that rang 3 consecutive orders on the same Amex without hesitation.

I just left a grocer that rang 3 consecutive orders on the same Amex without hesitation.A lot of places will let you split the order (especially bigger places). Like charge a single thing on 3 cards or something. Of course this can become a problem if you do lets say a $30 order and ask to charge it in $10 increments, and then Amex blocks the subsequent charges because they are seen as duplicates. You could do something like $30.03 and do $10, $10.01, $10.02, etc.

When I buy prepaid g.c at supermarket I toss in a grocery item so it’s not as obvious e.g. $100 prepaid Visa + $5.95 activation fee + banana. Otherwise would have a bunch of $105.95 charges in a row.

@briarycliffs Just because a business is on the Shop Small map, it doesn’t guarantee that that business accepts AMEX.
Learned this the hard way a few years ago during AMEX Shop Small Saturday. A local hardware store was on the map, even had an AMEX ‘Shop Small’ door mat. But when I went to the register to pay, I was informed that they don’t accept AMEX – they only participate/advertise in the shop small promotion.

Sounds like fraud to me. Why/how would they get the amex shop small merchandise, but not actually accept amex? They probably just didn’t want to accept it because the fees are a little higher.

The easy way to solve that problem and not waste your time is to just give them a call before you go out there to make sure they accept American Express.

@mrvietnam Thanks.
Data point: Bought something on June 30th. No text/email as of yet and certainly no credit. Definitely from a store on the Shop Small map - double checked it.
-
@orthros I see a small grocery store on the list but I know for sure they dont take AMEX. So definitely can’t trust everything completely.
-
Years ago I ate at a restaurant on the Shop Small list but refused to accept Amex, so I charged on a different card. Afterwards I called Amex to tell them their list was out of date. The person checked and said the restaurant should have accepted Amex, and credited me the offer. I guessed the restaurant violated the terms of their agreement with Amex.
-
Follow up: Bought on June 30th. $5 credit appeared as Pending today. No email or other notification.
Looks like it’s working though. I also was able to activate on both my AmEx accounts.

Also, if you go to the Savings tab of Amex Offers & Benefits, you will see the credits posted there, too. It usually takes two days after the charge posts to get the credits back.
-
I guess it varies with a business; I used it twice so far. First one was listed as Pending in my statement for 3 days. Once it got posted, I could see Credit $5.00 under the posted charges. Got no email.
Second place I used it, I got an email minutes later You have earned $5 credit for shopping small.
I also split my purchases at self service register and made two $12 purchases and was credited twice the five bucks 🙂

This has nothing to do with this particular deal, but here is some American Express-related news:
( I guess it pertains to this deal, too, if you were able to save it onto more than one card. What we’re seeing more and more though, is that Amex is willing to use its broad authority to claw back points or close the accounts of people who try to game promotions or do things that are explicitly forbidden by the terms and conditions. Amex has made it clear that it doesn’t intend to sit back and allow people to game the system.)

@mrvietnam Just goes to show, pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.
I remember when I figured out that you can ship a bunch of items to yourself with free shipping, while Half would give the seller a $1.50 shipping reimbursement per item. I placed an order for a bunch of items for a penny each, and my order got flagged with a voicemail from half.com that they are forwarding my case to the local DA. Of course nothing came out of that, but I also did not get any money and I believe was out the order charges.
My friends, who placed smaller orders, got under the radar and received their checks.
