right, i dropped off carts in the am, and you may have to deal with someone who doesn’t know whats going on, but no id.
i went back later to redeem some points, and they did ask to see me id.on the one account, i am plus. i dropped off 30 carts in one shot. employee tells me they only take 20. i said there is a bonus 10. she asks, “is that on the app”?

@ohsheet I recycle 40 in one shot (10 bonus + 30 regular). “My store” doesn’t say anything but I’ve been told only 20 at other stores. I educate them. One can recycle as many as one wants but will only receive Rewards for some of them. Then I show them my offers on the website.
I can’t believe that I’m paying for paper but it’s $34.99 for 10 reams today. Will use a $10/$30 to make it $24.99. Might as well start using up the Qs that expire 12-31-24.

You might as well recycle a single alkaline battery while you’re there and get an extra $2.50 in rewards money.
if you’re looking for something to use your rewards money on, Staples has their store brand case water (24 count) on sale up until a week from this Saturday for $2.99 a case. Even though the $10 off $30 purchase coupon isn’t printing anymore for recycling, to get case water at Staples for three dollars a case to me is a very good deal, especially since you got the rewards money for nothing except for the price of the empty cartridges, so the water is pretty much free.

I recycle & redeem on a friend’s account (JD). I did a kiosk order for pick up at the store since I can’t ship to her and I don’t want to possibly link her account to my address. I went to pick up the items at the store tonight. Relatively new cashier asked me for i.d. to prove that I was JD. I said, “but I’m not”. He said, “well then never mind” and gave me the items. I said that it was the first time that I’d ever been asked for i.d. He said it was because the pick up screen told him to ask for it. He said that he’d seen me place the order so he knew it was ok.
After completing the pick up I recycled a battery & 10 carts on JD’s account then my 40 & a battery for my account.

In the terms of service, are a husband and wife, both living together at the same address, allowed to each have their own individual account? I manage my wife’s account and recycle & redeem for her.

@mrvietnam My friend (above) was lending me her and her husband’s accounts but when I logged into his it brought me to her account. Staples used to merge accounts but IDK if they still do.

Not sure I agree on printer ink, because you don’t earn the rewards when you pay with rewards and staples tends to be high.
Have to give some thought to this on what the best options may be.

Research. Years ago when HP had rebates for specific items my friend (same JD above) & I scrolled through all the eligible products looking each of them up on eBay to check their sale history. So we got the rebate and then resold the ink.
Case paper. It goes on sale on Mondays. Sell it locally. Back when cases were FASER JD & I sold them to a print shop.
Charmin, Bounty, Kleenex & Ziploc for local sale. The 3 packs of regular Kleenex are ~$5.69, ultra soft $1 more in-store. It’s ~ $5.99 at WM, $6.99 on Amazon. Look for a Kleenex coupon. Years ago they went on clearance for ~$2. I bought cases of them and used coupons. Sold them to co-workers for 50¢ for a set of 3, lol. Finally sold the last case in 2023. It doesn’t go bad.

I bought ink for resale to keep Premier status. Figure $1000 for ink, get back 50% in Rewards. Resold ink. Used the Rewards to buy more ink or other stuff for resale. I think I broke even or maybe made a profit. Having maintained Premier consistently they gave me 400 points for 30 empties/month with the new program.

Agree on case paper, easy to sell locally to a business or organization. You may not make much on it at $38 a case but it is a good way to monetize rewards AND not have the cost of Ebay fees/shipping, etc.

That would be 15 months for me, provided Staples sticks with the current program. I hate to buy too large an amount since my OD closed, and who knows what Staples is going to do in the future with recycling.

I have a preferred seller of used ink cartridges on eBay. I really like them. just about 45 minutes from my house and they are quite generous at least to me. My last order I ordered a lot of 450 used ink cartridges and I got nearly 575 in the box they sent me… of course your mileage may vary and it might’ve been just a mistake on their part. I’m not by my computer but later I’ll update this post and post the name of the seller. The seller often has the lowest prices that I have seen, but there are a lot sizes on the high side
EDIT: The seller I bought from was Planet Green Electronics. Very happy with this eBay seller.
I got a really good deal as eBay offered me a $25 off a $75 app coupon, that couldn’t have come at a better time. S, aftrt tax, I only paid about $82 for 575 carts, or about 14 cents a cartridge.

@briarycliffs Yeah I’ve used Planet Green Electronics a couple times, the last time was the best.
I paid around $75 for “Canon 280XL lot of 300 Virgin Empty Ink Cartridges”, which works out to $0.25 each.
But the best part was that there was hardly any ink leaks, and 10 cartridges fit neatly into a small sandwich ziploc bag!
So much better that rooting around in that jumbled mess with odd sized and often leaky cartridges!

@dangeruss I didn’t think that buying Plus would be as good as spending real money. You have to be a loyal customer to spend $1K. Then, if all the Plus account does is recycle they’re not going to “reward” that account.

I swear that many of the Staples employees have no idea how the recycling program works. Just this month I was told I can only recycle 20 cartridges. I told her I can recycle as much as I want to, but understood that I would only get credit for the amount allowed on my account. Last month, the cashier combined my 30 cartridges with the technology and was reporting it as 31 pieces of technology. When I pointed it out to him, he said it wouldn’t make a difference. I insisted he correct it which he did.

Staples Gift Cards are not rewards, you could never buy Stamps at staples with ink rewards (old program) or the current one either. Only at Office Depot.

This morning I went to Staples to recycle my monthly 10 cartridges and 1 alkaline battery and something happened at the register that I never had happen before. As the cashier was processing my recycling order, there was an audible voice at the register that said something like: “Stop. Additional information required”, or something like that. The cashier did not ask me for any additional information. Maybe she accidently hit the redeem key and the audible voice is for them to check the customer’s ID?
On a somber note, Years ago I used to have about 6 or 7 Office Depot stores in my entire area, then it went to two last year, but I went to the store in Irvine yesterday to recycle ink cartridges and I saw they are closing that location. The cashier blamed it on the lease expiring. That is the same reason a couple of the other stores gave to me too when I asked. I quickly called the other open store in Fullerton to check if they are closing up too, but they said they are still there. So now there is only one Office Depot in Orange County, CA. To be honest recycling at Office Depot is not as lucrative as Staples. I only get about 50% off the rewards at Office Depot, but at Staples I get about 92% off the rewards earned with no $10 monthly purchase required and a lot more Staples stores to shop at…
